The Rays will evaluate the status of Matt Moore (elbow) further on Thursday to decide whether he'll require surgery to repair his torn ulnar collateral ligament. "It needs to be looked at a little bit more deeply because it's not a slam dunk surgery right now," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. Moore visited Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion and had an MRI taken of the elbow, the results of which will be taken into account when making a decision on Tommy John surgery. If needed, Moore would be sidelined until the middle of the 2015 season. A decision could come as soon as Thursday.

Matt Moore (elbow) will visit Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday. We knew he was getting a second opinion from Dr. Andrews at some point this week, and now we know the day. Moore missed a month of action with a sore elbow last season but thinks the ailment is less severe this time around. However, Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reported Tuesday that Moore's injury involves the ulnar collateral ligament, which almost always leads to Tommy John surgery.

Matt Moore (elbow) will receive a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews. Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Tuesday that the first MRI on Moore's left elbow was inconclusive. It's never a good sign when a pitcher goes to see Dr. Andrews, but Friedman did add that Moore feels good. A clearer picture on the left-hander's status will be available after the meeting with Andrews, which will occur before the end of the week.

Rays placed LHP Matt Moore on the 15-day disabled list with a left elbow injury. Moore was pulled from his start Monday against the Royals with elbow discomfort. He underwent an MRI on Tuesday morning and is still waiting for the results. It could be an extended absence for the 24-year-old left-hander.

Matt Moore (elbow) will likely be placed on the disabled list. Moore left Monday's start against the Royals with left elbow soreness and was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday. The Rays have yet to make an official announcement, but Jeff Beliveau is reportedly on his way from from Triple-A Durham to provide some bullpen depth over the next couple of days. Erik Bedard could be an option to replace Moore in the rotation.

Matt Moore left Monday's start against the Royals in the fifth inning with an apparent injury. Moore grimaced after throwing a pitch and was then removed after Rays manager Joe Maddon and the team trainer visited the mound. It's not clear at this point what he hurt, but Tampa fans are holding their breath. Moore allowed one run on four hits and two walks over 4 1/3 frames before exiting.

Matt Moore was solid in Wednesday's start against the Blue Jays, but took the loss after allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings. The lefty allowed six hits and walked three while striking out four. Jose Bautista hit the first of his two solo home runs against Moore in the fourth, which was all of the offense the Jays needed. Moore, through no fault of his own, was thoroughly outpitched by Mark Buehrle. Moore will try to rebound against the Royals on Monday.

Back after taking a liner to the mouth last time out, Matt Moore gave up three runs and seven hits in three innings Friday in a loss to the Tigers. Moore, who had issued 15 free passes in 14 1/3 innings this spring, went without walking anyone today. However, he did throw three wild pitches. The number of hits he surrendered also says plenty about his lack of command. We're not recommending him in drafts.
