Matt Holliday went 2-for-5 with an RBI triple in a losing effort against the Astros on Friday. He's only hitting .255 on the season, but has been a solid source of power in the middle of the Cardinals lineup with five homers and 18 RBI on the season. He's a big part of the reason why the Cardinals have continued to win and score plenty of runs, even with the departure of Albert Pujols.

Matt Holliday led the offensive attack for the Cardinals in their 11-1 victory over the Brewers, going 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI. Holliday has gotten off to a slow start to the season, but raised his average up to .233 with the three hit effort on Friday. He remains one of the most prolific hitters in the National League, and is sure to raise that average over .300 by season's end.

Matt Holliday is batting just .200/.234/.356 through his first 47 plate appearances this season. Holliday roared out of the gate last year, posting a 1.063 OPS in the month of April. But there's no real reason to be concerned. Hitters hit, and the muscle-bound 32-year-old should find his stroke eventually.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Monday that Matt Holliday will hit third this season. That No. 3 spot in the Cardinals' lineup has been filled primarily by Albert Pujols over the past 11 seasons. But a change obviously had to be made heading into 2012. "I like hitting there," Holliday told reporters Monday. "And if you look at my career, I've had success hitting there."

Matt Holliday returned to the lineup Sunday after sitting out two days with tightness in the right side of his back. Holliday is hitting third and playing left field against the Nationals. The veteran outfielder is expected to occupy the third spot in the lineup this season after Albert Pujols' departure.

Matt Holliday will be replaced on the World Series roster for Game 7 due to a sprained right wrist. Holliday said after Game 6 that he thought he'd be able to play with the ailment, but obviously the Cardinals want to play it safe with him. It's actually probably a blessing in disguise for the Redbirds, as Allen Craig is simply swinging the bat better than Holliday right now. Craig will start in left field against Matt Harrison, while Adron Chambers will replace Holliday on the roster.

Matt Holliday (finger) expects to play in Game 7. Holliday suffered a "severely bruised middle finger" while being tagged out at third base in Thursday's wild Game 6 victory over the Rangers and was spotted later in a splint. But it's doubtful he'll sit on Friday night. The Cardinals left fielder has been battling bumps and bruises all season long.

Jon Heyman of SI.com hears that Matt Holliday's right middle finger is "a lot worse" than he's let on. Holliday originally injured the finger in mid-September and was limited in the early part of the playoffs. He is batting just .167 (3-for-18) during the World Series, so it appears he is playing at less than 100 percent. While he won't sit due to the injury, Tony La Russa plans to drop him to fifth in the lineup for Game 6 on Wednesday night against right-hander Colby Lewis.

Matt Holliday tweaked his knee during a collision at first base Saturday but said he'll be fine. Holliday stumbled and fell to the ground after being tagged out (but called safe) by Mike Napoli in the fourth inning. He played the rest of the game without any issues, though, and will be back in the lineup Sunday for Game 4. It's possible Cardinals manager Tony La Russa will give Holliday a mini-break by putting him in the DH slot and Allen Craig in the outfield.

Matt Holliday is batting cleanup for the Cardinals in Game 1 of the World Series, with Lance Berkman hitting fifth. La Russa moved Holliday down to fifth in the order for the last few games of the NLCS, but after the left fielder went 7-for-13 over the last three games against the Brewers, he'll move into the No. 4 spot against lefty C.J. Wilson. He could be back down in the No. 5 spot in Game 2 against Colby Lewis.
