Matt Harrison (back) will throw live batting practice Wednesday.
It will be the first time he's faced hitters since two back surgeries early on in the season. Harrison was cleared after throwing 60 pitches during a bullpen session on Monday. "It definitely gave me a sense of where I'm at," said Harrison of the pen session. The lefty considers himself a week ahead of schedule but still won't return until late August.

Matt Harrison (back) threw 25 pitches at 75 percent intensity Thursday during a bullpen session.
It was his first bullpen session since two back surgeries early on in the season. Harrison will need to make it through several more before facing live hitters, but he's hoping to begin a rehab assignment in the early part of August. He likely won't be an option for the Rangers until September.

Matt Harrison (back) is hoping to begin throwing off a mound just after the All-Star break.
Harrison is currently limited to throwing long toss and playing catch off the mound. The left-hander is hoping to be back by the end of August after a pair of surgeries on his back. "We're still looking at the end of August if all goes well," said Harrison. "Maybe six or seven bullpen sessions and a couple of live batting practices and hopefully I can get in a game [on a rehab assignment] by the beginning of August. But everything has to go right for that to happen."

Matt Harrison (back) isn't expected to rejoin the Rangers until September.
Harrison will begin a throwing program on Monday, but the Rangers want him to take it extra slowly after he underwent a pair of surgeries on his back. He could throw on flat ground for 4-6 weeks before being allowed to throw off a mound, and it will likely be at least another month after that before he's built up enough endurance to rejoin the rotation.

Matt Harrison (back) will begin playing catch next week.
Harrison is currently working his way back from surgery to repair a herniated disk in his lower back. While the southpaw is making progress, he's not expected to rejoin the Rangers' rotation until well into the second half of the season.

Rangers transferred LHP Matt Harrison from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot for the recently-claimed Joe Benson. Harrison underwent a second back surgery in late April and is expected to be sidelined at least another two months.

Matt Harrison recently had a setback with his back that required an additional surgery on Wednesday.
Harrison underwent an operation on April 23 to repair a herniated disk in his lower back, and he began additional discomfort this week, necessitating another operation. According to T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, the Rangers are "operating under the assumption that Harrison will pitch again this season, but he will be out for at least three months." In other words, we won't see him again until August at the earliest, and it seems like there's a good chance it will be longer than that.

Harrison had normal post-op soreness, but the pain in his legs that he had developed prior to the operation was already gone. The lefty is expected to be sidelined until after the All-Star break.

Matt Harrison will undergo surgery Friday to repair a herniated disk in his lower back.
Surgery was deemed necessary after his back failed to respond to multiple epidural injections. The Rangers won't have a clear timetable for his return until the surgery is complete, but general manager Jon Daniels estimates that he'll be sidelined until after the All-Star break. Nick Tepesch and Justin Grimm will continue to hold down rotation spots for now.
