Matt Capps (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a 45-pitch simulated game Saturday.
Assuming he avoids setbacks, Capps will rejoin the Twins on Monday. Look for him to be used in low-leverage situations initially, before potentially being added to a committee with Glen Perkins and Jared Burton.

Matt Capps (shoulder) will begin facing batters this week in the Twins' fall instructional league.
Capps could rejoin the Twins for the final series of their 2012 regular season schedule. He has thrown only 28 1/3 innings this year because of a right rotator cuff injury and is likely to have his $6 million club option for 2013 declined this winter.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Matt Capps (shoulder) still has a chance to return later this season.
Capps has made just two appearances since late June due to shoulder issues. It's not clear how far along he is in his rehab, but obviously the Twins haven't given up on him making a late-season impact. He almost surely wouldn't be used in save opportunities, though.

An MRI of Matt Capps' right shoulder has confirmed only inflammation, but he is not close to resuming throwing.
It was reported Sunday that he would resume throwing Wednesday if the MRI showed no structural damage, but evidently that won't happen. Obviously Capps' timetable is up in the air, and he doesn't appear likely to make much of an impact over the rest of the season.

Matt Capps will receive an MRI on his ailing right shoulder Sunday.
An MRI back in June just showed inflammation, but the Twins want Capps to get looked at again after he's been unable to get over the hump with his shoulder ailment. The right-hander has yet to resume throwing but could conceivably be cleared soon if the MRI shows no structural damage.

Matt Capps (shoulder) has yet to resume a throwing program.
Capps is working his way back from a rotator cuff injury, and isn't close to returning. The Twins are expected to reevaluate him Monday. It's far from a given that he'll be back later this season.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Matt Capps (shoulder) will be shut down "for a while."
He didn't specify anything more than that, but obviously he'll be on the disabled list much longer than 15 days. Capps recently had a setback with a shoulder injury that he's dealt with for over a month, and he's no sure thing to return at all this year. There's no reason to hang on to him in mixed leagues.

Twins placed RHP Matt Capps on the 15-day disabled list with right rotator cuff irritation.
Capps made just two appearances since returning from the DL, and he's headed back there after feeling more soreness in his appearance Monday. An MRI will likely be performed before more is known about how long he'll be sidelined. Obviously, he's no longer an option to be moved before the trade deadline. The Twins will continue to give save chances to Glen Perkins and Jared Burton.

The Twins are expected to ease Matt Capps back into his closer role.
Glen Perkins and Jared Burton have fared pretty well since Capps went on the disabled list last month, converting 6-of-7 save chances. They'll continue to be used in the ninth inning while Capps knocks the rust off, but the Twins no doubt hope Capps can settle back into his old role quickly and build up his trade value.
