The 25-year-old's scoreless streak is now at 18.1 innings dating back to the tail end of last season, and he's allowed just four hits overall in 8.2 innings to date in 2017. Bowman continues to do a solid job of keeping the ball on the ground as well, with a 15:8 GB:FB over 10 appearances this season.

Bowman earned his third hold of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Pirates, allowing one hit and recording a strikeout. As per Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com, , he hasn't allowed an earned run since Sept. 6 of last season, a stretch of 17.1 innings.

The 25-year-old former Rule 5 pick's scoreless streak doesn't even include the 12 shutout frames he fired this spring, and he's also allowed just three hits across eight appearances this season while generating a minuscule 0.55 WHIP. Bowman preserved what was a one-run lead in the eighth Tuesday, validating the increasing trust that manager Mike Matheny has in him. "I think it says a lot about Bowman and whatever role we give him he seems to do a great job with," Matheny said. "He's equally effective [against] lefties with the movement and deception. He's a very important piece right now."

Bowman earned his second hold of the season in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Nationals, recording one out in the eighth inning.

EDGE Analysis

Bowman was brought on to help put out the fire started by Trevor Rosenthal, who'd allowed three straight singles with one out. The 25-year-old induced a fielder's choice groundout from Anthony Rendon for his one out before being replaced by Brett Cecil. The young right-hander has been impressive over his first five appearances thus far in 2017, having yet to allow a run in four innings and surrendering just two hits.

Bowman was credited with his third save of spring in Sunday's 3-0 Grapefruit League win over the Marlins, surrendering only one hit over two scoreless innings and recording a strikeout.

Following the Friday announcement that he'll make the 25-man roster, Bowman closed out another spring victory for the Cardinals with two masterful innings. The 26-year-old righty has yet to allow an earned run this spring over 10 innings while generating a 1.10 WHIP and .238 BAA.
