Andriese unofficially threw 77 pitches in a five-inning intrasquad outing Friday, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four, per Trent Rush of Angels Radio Network.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese was named the Angels' fifth starter Wednesday and responded with an effective five-inning appearance Friday. His first regular-season appearance is likely to come against Seattle on July 28.

Andriese will open the season as the Angels' fifth starter, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Joe Maddon announced the decision Wednesday. Andriese's spot in the rotation is presumably tied to the continued absence of Julio Teheran, though given Maddon's likely use of a six-man rotation this season, Andriese could stick as a starter even after Teheran returns. In 49 career starts, Andriese has posted a 4.64 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 202:63 K:BB over 236.2 innings.

Andriese has been stretching out to be a starter and could still be a part of the Angels' rotation, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese had been lining up for a possible starting role prior to the suspension of spring training, but the return to health of both Shohei Ohtani and Griffin Canning (elbow) seemingly put a damper on those hopes. However, the uncertain nature of the 2020 campaign magnifies the need for teams to have extra flexibility among their pitching staffs, and Andriese is a logical candidate for an open starting spot given his history as a starter in the majors. As it stands, the Angels are currently unsure when presumed starter Julio Teheran, who has yet to report to camp for undisclosed reasons, will be ready to resume baseball activities or whether he will be available to pitch at the start of the season.

Andriese is a strong candidate to open the season in the Angels' roatation, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese was already being looked at as a starter before it was revealed that Griffin Canning (elbow) would likely begin the season on the injured list. That opens the No. 4 spot in the rotation, which is likely to go to Andriese in light of his solid spring (one earned run and six strikeouts in nine innings). Though the right-hander has been a starter for much of his career, 90 of his last 95 appearances have come out of the bullpen.

Andriese will come to camp as a starting pitcher following his trade to the Angels on Tuesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old owns a career 4.64 ERA in 49 starts. In 2019 for the Diamondbacks, his first season spent entirely in the bullpen, he posted a mediocre 4.71 ERA. Moving to the rotation would give him a better shot at fantasy relevance than a middle-relief role would, though the fact that he'll enter camp as a starter doesn't guarantee that he'll enter the regular season as one.

Andriese was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Angels on Tuesday in exchange for Jeremy Beasley, freelance baseball writer Robert Murray reports.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese appeared in 54 games for the Diamondbacks last year as he operated out of the bullpen for the full season. The right-hander recorded a 4.71 ERA with a 79:27 K:BB over 70.2 innings while working mainly lower-leverage situations. The Angels' bullpen lacks experience, so it's possible Andriese could receive some consideration in more high-leverage situations if he can continue to develop.

Andriese avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1,395,000 deal with Arizona on Friday, freelance baseball writer Robert Murray reports.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese served as a full-time reliever for the first time last season, posting an unimpressive 4.71 ERA in 70.2 innings. He did at least post career highs in strikeout rate (25.5 percent) and groundball rate (50.3 percent), but he's unlikely to pitch in a fantasy-relevant role this season.

Andriese (foot) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list prior to Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
He has been on the shelf since July 19 with a bruised foot. Andriese has a 5.91 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 51 strikeouts in 45.2 innings. Look for him to return to a low-to-mid-leverage role.

Andriese (foot) threw a second bullpen session Monday since landing on the injured list, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese was placed on the IL on July 20 with a left foot contusion. A former starter for Tampa Bay, Andriese has worked out of the bullpen for the Diamondbacks. There's a possibility Arizona could build up his innings to start if it trades any current members of the rotation, such as Zack Greinke and/or Robbie Ray, at the deadline.

Andriese landed on the 10-day injured list with a left foot contusion Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Andriese owns a poor 5.91 ERA in 45.2 innings this season. His peripherals are respectable, though, as his 9.7 percent walk rate isn't terrible and both his 24.8 percent strikeout rate and 50.8 percent groundball rate are better than average. It's not yet clear how much time he's expected to miss. Stefan Crichton was recalled in a corresponding move.
