Giolito allowed two earned runs on for hits and three walks while striking out six across five innings Thursday against the Twins. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Giolito allowed four of the first six batters he faced to reach base, which accounted for both of the earned runs against him. However, he settled in from there -- with the exception of his control problems -- and he racked up 12 swinging strikes on 93 total pitches. Giolito has failed to meet expectations this season, though he has maintained a 3.71 ERA with a 31:11 K:BB across 26.2 innings and five starts in September.

Giolito allowed three runs on six hits in six innings Friday against the Tigers, striking out nine while walking just one. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
From a K:BB perspective, Giolito's night was a strong one, but his 4.50 ERA on the day only served to bring his season-long mark down to 5.05. The Tigers did all their damage off him early, with a Miguel Cabrera groundout and an Eric Hase single driving in runs in the first inning before Jonathan Schoop launched a solo homer in the second. Giolito settled down after that and exited with the score tied, but Chicago's bullpen couldn't keep things that way. Giolito is in line to face the Twins both home and away to close out the season.

Giolito yielded one run on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings against the Tigers on Friday. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Giolito avoided taking his 10th loss despite Detroit winning the game. He gave up an RBI single to Spencer Torkelson in the first inning but looked comfortable the rest of the way. It was Giolito's shortest outing since he was tagged for seven runs against Houston on Aug. 18. He's now sporting a disappointing 5.07 ERA with a 158:55 K:BB through 27 starts. Giolito is lined up to face the Guardians at home next week.

Giolito didn't factor into the decision during Friday's 5-3 win against Oakland, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six innings.
EDGE Analysis
Giolito surrendered one run on three baserunners in the first inning and two more on three hits in the fifth to fall in line for the loss until Chicago rallied with five runs in the ninth inning. Aside from the first and fifth, the 28-year-old faced the minimum and recorded an impressive 19 swinging strikes on 96 pitches. The quality start was Giolito's second in 10 turns and he still possesses a high 5.18 ERA and 1.49 WHIP across 139 innings and 26 starts. He lines up to start again in Cleveland midweek.

Giolito (10-9) took the loss Sunday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over five innings against the Twins. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Giolito cruised through four innings and looked like he could record his first scoreless outing since April 8, but it was not meant to be. He served up a fastball on a silver platter to Carlos Correa in the fifth inning, which Correa sent to center field for a two-run home run to put the Twins on the board. Giolito has now allowed 31 runs in 44.2 innings over his last nine starts, causing his ERA to increase to 5.21 on the season. He will look to get back on track next weekend at Oakland.

Giolito (8-10) gave up five earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings to take the loss in a 9-7 defeat against the Royals on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The long ball was Giolito's downfall in yet another frustrating performance for the struggling starter who was chased after giving up three home runs on 89 pitches. Despite tallying four wins in August, Giolito has an ERA of 5.68 this month. His 142 strikeouts in 128 innings so far in 2020 are solid, but not enough to make up for his inflated ratios. Giolito does have an xFIP of 3.65 so there is some hope that the veteran's numbers could normalize down the stretch. He is tentatively expected to make his next start against the Twins.

Giolito (10-7) earned the win Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 6.1 innings against Baltimore. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Giolito's only run allowed came in the fourth on an RBI groundout that scored catcher Adley Rutschman after he doubled to lead off the inning. The 28-year-old's struggles had been more severe than usual lately with a disastrous 7.39 ERA and 1.93 WHIP in 28 innings over his six starts prior to this contest. The righty has been dreadful at home this season with a 6.71 ERA and a .318 average allowed in 53.2 innings compared to a 3.91 ERA and a .259 average allowed in 69 innings away from Chicago.

Giolito (9-7) allowed seven earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and one walk across three innings to take the loss Thursday against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Giolito was hit hard throughout the outing. He surrendered a total of four extra-base hits and was tagged with at least seven earned runs in a start for the third time this season. Entering Thursday's appearance, Giolito had allowed more than three earned runs only once in his last four outings. Despite that solid stretch, Giolito has an ugly 5.34 ERA across 116.1 innings for the season.

Giolito (9-6) earned the win over Detroit on Saturday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over seven innings.
EDGE Analysis
Giolito fell behind early when he gave up three runs in the second frame. However, he rebounded to allow only one additional run the rest of the way and got enough run support to pick up the victory. Giolito was effective at missing bats with 17 swinging strikes, and he tied his season-high mark by completing seven innings. The right-hander has won each of his past three starts and has struck out 19 batters over 17 innings during that span.

Giolito (8-6) earned the victory Sunday in Texas, striking out five in five innings while allowing a run on six hits and three walks.
EDGE Analysis
It wasn't exactly his best outing but he managed to hold Texas to only one run despite allowing nine baserunners and needing 103 pitches to complete the five frames. He allowed the leadoff man to get on in three of the five innings and the Rangers recorded a hit in each inning, but Giolito always seemed to get a timely groundball to end the threats. The 28-year-old has pitched at least five innings in 11 of his last 12 outings but each outing continues to be a struggle and his 4.91 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 18 homers allowed in 106.1 innings are a far cry from his output in the previous three seasons. His next start will likely be next weekend against Detroit.
