Head was released by the Phillies on Tuesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jacob Barnes has been signed to a minor-league deal and will replace Head in the bullpen at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Head, 33, was struggling to a 10.80 ERA through 11.2 innings of work this season in the International League.

The Phillies reassigned Head to minor-league camp Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Unless the Phillies grant him the opportunity to explore his options in free agency, Head looks poised to open the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley after failing to secure a spot in the big club's Opening Day bullpen. The 32-year-old righty appeared in 28 games in the majors between the Marlins and Orioles in 2022, logging a 6.28 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 26:15 K:BB across 28.2 innings.

Head signed a minor-league deal with the Phillies in early January and will join the team's major-league camp.
EDGE Analysis
Head recorded a 2.31 ERA in 35 innings as a 31-year-old rookie in 2021, but he stumbled to a 6.28 ERA in 28.2 frames last year, splitting his time between Miami and Baltimore. If he shows hints of his 2021 form this spring, it's possible he earns a low-leverage bullpen role to start the year.

Head elected free agency Thursday, per the Triple-A Norfolk transaction log.
EDGE Analysis
Head lost his spot on the 40-man roster Oct. 18, and he'll now look for his next opportunity around the league. He threw 28.2 innings in the majors combined between stints with Miami and Baltimore in 2022 and posted a 6.28 ERA and 1.64 WHIP.

Head was sent outright to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Head pitched 28.2 innings in the majors during 2022, recording a 6.28 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in the process. After putting up even worse numbers in Triple-A Norfolk -- 7.04 ERA and 1.85 WHIP -- the Orioles will keep him in the minors until he's able to rebound.

Head was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Head was called up by the Orioles in early August, and he recorded a 1.80 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in five innings over five relief appearances with the big-league club. However, he'll head back to the minors after Rico Garcia was recalled from Norfolk.

The Orioles recalled Head from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Head will be joining the big club for the first time since the Orioles claimed him off waivers from the Marlins on July 12. During his month-long stay at Norfolk, Head struck out 12 and allowed three earned runs on four hits and seven walks over eight innings.

Head (shoulder) allowed three runs on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts in one inning for Triple-A Norfolk versus Worcester on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
This appearance indicates Head has been activated from the injured list. The right-hander was claimed off waivers from the Marlins earlier this week, but it appears he'll begin his tenure in the Orioles' organization at the Triple-A level. The 32-year-old had a 7.23 ERA and 1.56 WHIP across 23.2 innings with the Marlins. He'll need to show improvement in his performance to be considered for a spot in the Orioles' bullpen, which is one of the better relief-pitching groups in the majors this year.

The Orioles claimed Head (shoulder) off waivers from the Marlins on Tuesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Currently on the injured list rehabbing from a shoulder injury, Head threw a scoreless inning with two strikeouts Saturday in the Florida Complex League. The righty has only been out since June 22, so he doesn't figure to need much more rehab work at the lower levels. Head has a 7.23 ERA in 23.2 innings this season, so it's no guarantee he gets opportunities with the Orioles when fully up to speed.

Head (shoulder) will throw in a game with the Marlins' rookie-level Florida Coast League affiliate Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Head threw a pair of bullpens over the last several days and will be able to return to game action with a minor-league affiliate this weekend. It's not yet clear how many rehab appearances he'll require or whether he'll be able to rejoin the Marlins prior to the All-Star break.
