Wright allowed the first seven of the playoff-record 11 runs the Dodgers scored in the first inning. He seemed to be settling down after allowing a single and a double to start the game, recording a pair of groundouts, but he proceeded to allow the next five batters to reach base, including back-to-back homers by Joc Pederson and Edwin Rios. While the Braves likely didn't anticipate Wright struggling quite this much, they presumably didn't have particularly high expectations for him, as he owns a career 6.22 ERA in 63.2 big-league innings.

Wright had to wiggle out of some trouble in the first inning and again in the third. There was not much drama otherwise as Wright kept the Marlins off the scoreboard and the bullpen did the same to complete Atlanta's shutout and clinch a trip to the NLCS. Wright endured some major struggles at the highest level in 2019, but he's been better this season and especially lately as he's avoided shooting himself in the foot with free passes (five walks in his last 19 innings).

With several other starters slated to return next week, Wright's next start should come Sunday on the road against the Mets.

Wright delivered a dud in his return to the Atlanta rotation earlier this week, giving up five runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- on seven hits and two walks over four frames. However, due to a lack of healthy and/or dependable alternates, Wright will get the chance to redeem himself in Washington. Fantasy managers shouldn't have nearly as much faith in Wright as the Braves do, as the right-hander's 7.86 ERA (7.20 FIP) and 1.99 WHIP in 44.2 career innings show no evidence that he's big-league ready.

Wright (0-4) was tagged with the loss Tuesday against Miami, pitching four innings and allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four.

Wright went up against rookie stud Sixto Sanchez and was unable to keep pace, tying a season worst by allowing five runs while lasting only four frames. He was victimized by three home runs as Miami went deep once in each of the second, third and fourth innings. The right-hander induced only six swinging strikes in the loss and yielded a season-high seven hits. Wright now owns an unsightly 8.05 ERA and 2.21 WHIP over 19 innings this season. If he gets another turn in the rotation, it is likely to take place Sunday at Washington.

The Braves recalled Wright from their alternate training site ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday against the Marlins.

EDGE Analysis

Wright will rejoin the rotation as a replacement for Robbie Erlin, who worked in long relief behind starter Ian Anderson in Monday's 5-4 loss in 10 innings. Though the Braves remain high on the 25-year-old's long-term outlook, Wright's early returns at the big-league level haven't been encouraging. Since making his MLB debut in 2019, Wright has posted a 7.52 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and a 35:35 K:BB over 40.2 innings.
