The Rockies announced Tuesday that Freeland will start Colorado's March 27 season opener against the Marlins in Miami.
EDGE Analysis
It will be Freeland's fifth career Opening Day nod, the most in Rockies franchise history. The 32-year-old Freeland put together an average season in 2025, logging a 4.98 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 124:38 K:BB across 162.2 innings. He started 31 games, tied for his most in a single season since 2018, but Freeland led the majors with 17 losses. His 4.51 FIP away from Coors was actually worse than his 3.76 FIP at home.

Freeland (back) will start Wednesday's exhibition game against Team USA, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It will be the first game appearance this spring for Freeland, who has been slow-played while dealing with back spasms. The veteran lefty was cleared to start Wednesday following a couple bullpen sessions and he should have time to build up his stamina for Opening Day.

Freeland (back) had a successful bullpen session Wednesday and could be ready for his Cactus League debut next week, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Freeland has been held back by mid-back spasms but seems to be on the mend. If the veteran left-hander is able to get into a game next week, he will have plenty of time to ramp up ahead of Opening Day. Freeland will likely draw the Opening Day start for the Rockies, if healthy.

The Rockies announced Monday that Freeland has been slowed by mid-back spasms during camp, but the veteran southpaw is slated to throw this week, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The back issue will end up delaying Freeland's entry into the Rockies' spring pitching schedule, but assuming he can avoid any setbacks while ramping up his throwing, he should be fully stretched out by the start of the regular season. Freeland turned in a 4.98 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 124:38 K:BB in 162.2 innings over his 31 starts with the Rockies in 2025.

Freeland (5-17) took the loss against the Giants on Saturday, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out four across six innings.
EDGE Analysis
It was a tough loss for Freeland, whose lone (but crucial) blemish came in the third inning, when he yielded a three-run homer to Casey Schmitt. Freeland will end the season with 17 losses, which is the most of his career and would lead the majors at the end of the season unless Mitchell Parker (9-16) were to take a loss out of the bullpen. Freeland will end the 2025 season with a 4.98 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 124:38 K:BB across 162.2 innings.

Kyle Freeland (5-16) earned the win Sunday against the Angels, allowing one run on five hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings.
EDGE Analysis
Freeland bounced back from a rough outing in his previous start, when he surrendered six runs, by limiting Los Angeles to just a first-inning RBI single from Jo Adell before settling in to retire 14 of the final 17 batters he faced. It marked the right-hander's 13th quality start in 30 outings this year. Despite Sunday's win, Freeland remains tied with Mitchell Parker for the MLB lead in losses with 16. The 32-year-old now owns a 5.00 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 120:37 K:BB across 156.2 innings and is scheduled to face San Francisco in his next outing.

Freeland (4-16) allowed six runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out one over 5.2 innings to take the loss versus the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Freeland hadn't allowed six runs in a start since Aug. 6 versus the Blue Jays. He was fading in the sixth inning when a rain delay occurred, bringing his start to a close at 73 pitches (52 strikes). The veteran southpaw is now at a 5.14 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 113:36 K:BB through 150.2 innings across 29 starts this season. He's projected for a home start versus the Angels over the weekend.

Freeland (4-15) took the loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing four runs (one earned) on nine hits and one walk while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
All four of the runs Freeland allowed came in the second frame, though an inning-opening Rockies error meant that only one of those runs was earned. Nonetheless, Freeland was hardly sharp -- he gave up at least one hit in all but one of the frames in which he pitched and was pulled with two outs in the sixth after loading the bases. The southpaw's loss was his 15th of the campaign, tied for most in the majors with teammate Antonio Senzatela and Washington's Mitchell Parker. Freeland will look to avoid another defeat the next time he takes the mound, which is slated to be next week against Miami.

Freeland (4-14) allowed two hits and struck out 10 without walking a batter over eight shutout innings to earn the win over the Padres on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Freeland got the nod Friday on short rest after his start Tuesday versus the Giants ended with him getting ejected just eight pitches in. The quick turnaround between starts didn't impact his rhythm, as he threw 64 of 88 pitches for strikes. Interim manager Warren Schaeffer didn't give Freeland the chance to complete what would have been his first career shutout, as the southpaw would have had to face the top of the Padres' order, so Victor Vodnik was brought in to convert the save. Even with the stellar start, Freeland still has a 5.10 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 107:34 K:BB over 139.1 innings across 27 starts. He's lined up to make his next start on the road versus the Dodgers.

Freeland is slated to start Friday's game against the Padres at Coors Field.
EDGE Analysis
Freeland will technically be taking the hill on just two days' rest, but he's unlikely to face any workload restrictions. During his start in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Giants, Freeland tossed just eight pitches before he was ejected in the first inning after taking exception to Rafael Devers' celebration of his two-run home run, which incited a fracas. The veteran southpaw heads into Friday's start with a 3-14 record, 5.41 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 97:34 K:BB in 131.1 innings on the season.
