Juan Uribe (abdomen) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment in about one week. Uribe landed on the disabled list at the end of July with a lower abdominal strain. He's expected to ramp up his workouts this week before gaining clearance to begin playing in minor league games in about seven days. The 32-year-old is batting just .204/.264/.293 through 77 games this season.

Juan Uribe (abdomen) is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam on Tuesday. Uribe didn't play Sunday after leaving Saturday's game a lower abdominal strain, the same injury that landed him on the disabled list in May. The 32-year-old is batting just .204/.264/.293 with four homers and 28 RBI in the first season of a three-year, $21 million contract.

Juan Uribe left Saturday's game after the fifth inning with a lower abdomen strain. Uribe admitted afterwards that the ailment had been bothering him "for about a week" and he wasn't when he initially was hurt. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said he knew about the injury heading into the game. He didn't sound particularly concerned. "I probably wouldn't have done it there had he not had a little something going on," Mattingly said of the double switch. "We'll see how [the checkup] comes out. He felt like he could play with it, but you never know. I wanted to make sure I had a healthy guy in there."

Juan Uribe was the only Dodger with more than one hit in Los Angeles' 5-0 loss to the Giants on Monday. He went 2-for-4. The two-hit night was Uribe's first in 14 games, bringing his average to .210 through his first 257 at-bats this season. There's little reason to expect him to heat up going forward, though he has been slightly better after the All-Star break than before it during his 11-year career.

Giants GM Brian Sabean called up to the press box during Wednesday's game to deny reports that he was interested in re-acquiring Juan Uribe. Well, OK then. We wouldn't expect Sabean to confirm that he's talked to the Dodgers about a deal, but the fact that he went out of his way to debunk the rumors probably means that nothing will go down. At least, not anytime soon.

Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports that the Giants have had discussions with the Dodgers about trading for Juan Uribe. Uribe, of course, was part of the Giants' championship club last season and nearly re-signed before ultimately deciding to take a three-year, $21 million deal from the Dodgers. It's certainly a fit for the Giants, as they have depth issues at shortstop and second base with Freddy Sanchez injured and Miguel Tejada not hitting. But, the Dodgers' issues in the front office might make it hard for them to do any deals.

Juan Uribe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Los Angeles' 4-0 win over the Tigers on Monday. Uribe's fourth bomb of the season was his first since April 29 (31 games). Batting just .213 with a .280 on-base percentage and .324 slugging percentage through his first 207 plate appearances, Uribe's signing has been an utter disaster for the Dodgers thus far.
