Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Mariners want to add a hitter and are "focused" on Josh Willingham and Allen Craig. The M's obviously aren't going to the playoffs this season, but Willingham is under contract through 2014, and Craig is under team control through 2016. A deal for either doesn't seem likely, though, as the Twins want to hang on to Willingham, and the Cards don't seem likely to give up Craig unless maybe the M's made Felix Hernandez available.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman was told by a Twins source Thursday that Josh Willingham will not be traded. "What are we, someone's farm club?" asked the source. Willingham has been extremely productive this year and is making just $7 million in each of the next two seasons. The Twins have no motivation to move him.

Josh Willingham launched a solo home run in Wednesday night's loss to the Orioles. He finished 2-for-3, hitting his solo shot off Tommy Hunter in the fourth inning. Willingham continues to mash the baseball, now batting .276 with 23 homers and 66 RBI on the year. He seems to have found a nice home in Minnesota, and has publicly stated that he would like to remain there when his current contract runs out.

The Twins are not actively shopping Josh Willingham and the slugger wants to stay in Minnesota once his three-year contract runs out, according to Phil Mackey and Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN. Although a "high-ranking American League front office executive" said Willingham is "definitely" Minnesota's most valuable trade chip, the Twins are extremely reluctant to move a productive player earning a club-friendly salary over the next two-plus years. The Hammer is batting .268/.381/.563 while launching 22 homers and driving home 65 runs this season in cavernous Target Field. While a contender could make the Twins an "offer they can't refuse," expect Willingham to be in the Twin Cities in August.
