The Twins are not actively shopping Josh Willingham and the slugger wants to stay in Minnesota once his three-year contract runs out, according to Phil Mackey and Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN.
Although a "high-ranking American League front office executive" said Willingham is "definitely" Minnesota's most valuable trade chip, the Twins are extremely reluctant to move a productive player earning a club-friendly salary over the next two-plus years. The Hammer is batting .268/.381/.563 while launching 22 homers and driving home 65 runs this season in cavernous Target Field. While a contender could make the Twins an "offer they can't refuse," expect Willingham to be in the Twin Cities in August.
