The Diamondbacks placed Kole Calhoun (hamstring) on the injured list Wednesday and will need fill-ins for the next 10 days at minimum. That means Rojas, who made a leaping catch against the fence to rob Fernando Tatis of a home run, could be part of the outfield rotation in the near term. He'll split time with Pavin Smith as well as Daulton Varsho, who was summoned from the alternate camp Wednesday to help fill out an outfield missing Calhoun, Ketel Marte (hamstring) and Tim Locastro (finger).

Rojas entered Tuesday's game as a pinch runner and played right field after Kole Calhoun (hamstring) was removed from a 5-1 win over the Padres.

Calhoun came up lame after stealing third base and was pulled from the game. With Pavin Smith already in the game at first base, the Diamondbacks opted for the multi-positional Rojas as a replacement. Calhoun will have an MRI on Wednesday and presumably will miss that night's game at least. Manager Torey Lovullo has a few options in right field should Calhoun require a stay on the injured list. Smith tops the list followed by Rojas and Josh VanMeter.

Rojas often comes off the bench, but has started three of the last four games. He is batting .191 in 56 plate appearances.

This is the version of Rojas that showed up in spring training, and the one the Diamondbacks were missing through the first three weeks of the regular season. He had been a lineup staple through the first portion of the season, playing both shortstop and second base, but lost the everyday role after starting 2-for-27. With Tim Locastro (finger) and Ketel Marte (hamstring) sidelined, the Diamondbacks need someone to hit leadoff. That could be Rojas if he continues to hit.

Rojas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Nick Ahmed's return from the injured list Saturday appears to have closed Rojas' window for everyday playing time.
