Osich was designated for assignment by the Reds on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Osich had a strong start to begin his time in the majors this year and put up a 0.87 ERA in 10.1 innings across his first 12 appearances of 2021. However, he was unable to replicate his success after the All-Star break, as he was charged with two blown saves after he allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and two walks while striking out two in four innings during five appearances. His removal from the 40-man roster will make room for right-hander Mychal Givens, who was acquired from the Rockies on Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis
That Osich was asked to pitch the eighth inning in the first place speaks volumes about the status of the Reds bullpen right now. With this outing his ERA climbed to 5.02, and he has served up four homers in 14.1 innings.

Osich allowed a grand slam by the Padres' Trent Grisham in Wednesday's 7-5 loss. It was the first run Osich has allowed in 5.2 innings since joining the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Osich came into the game with the bases already juiced in relief of starter Vladimir Gutierrez with one out in the fifth inning, but he couldn't take advantage of the lefty-on-lefty matchup against Grisham. Though Gutierrez was saddled with three runs and the loss, it was the decisive blow in the game, which ended in the sixth inning due to a thunder storm.

Osich's contract was selected by the Reds on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Osich joined the Reds on a minor-league deal over the offseason. The veteran lefty will earn another big-league opportunity despite posting a mediocre 5.40 ERA in 15 innings for Triple-A Louisville. He's thrown 206.1 career innings at the major-league level but hasn't done much of note, posting a career 5.02 ERA overall and a 5.67 ERA over the last four years. Ashton Goudeau was optioned in a corresponding move.

EDGE Analysis
Osich displayed improved velocity during spring training and posted a 5.63 ERA and 14:5 K:BB in eight innings across eight Cactus League appearances. However, the southpaw won't break camp with the team and should head to Triple-A Louisville to begin the 2021 season.

Osich was throwing his fastball between 93-95 mph in his first spring training outing, after averaging only 92 mph last season, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Osich is in the Reds spring training camp on a non-roster invite. That he's left-handed works in his favor - only Amir Garrett and Sean Doolittle are lefties in their pen, barring the possibility of Wade Miley not starting.
