The Jays had initially hoped Donaldson would be able to return to action Wednesday, but he'll sit for the third straight game as he continues to nurse what manager John Gibbons described as a "jarred" right hip. Toronto will go with Ryan Goins at third base Wednesday, and he'll bat ninth in the order.

Donaldson remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Rays, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports.

Donaldson will sit for the second consecutive day, and manager John Gibbons indicated that the reigning MVP "jarred" his right hip during Sunday's game, leading to some minor discomfort. Donaldson extended his hitting streak to eight games with his fourth-inning blast. The third baseman's 34th home run of the year put him on pace to surpass last season's career-high total of 41 homers. The reigning AL MVP has been heating up as he makes a last ditch effort to win the award again in 2016. Over Donaldson's last five games, he has eight hits, including six home runs, five walks, 11 RBI and eight runs scored.

It was his first career three home run game and the 10th multi-homer game of Donaldson's career. The reigning AL MVP has been overshadowed a little by teammate Edwin Encarnacion this season but Donaldson still has a fantastic .294/.407/.578 slash line with 33 homers, 91 RBI and 105 runs scored on the year with plenty of baseball left to play. He may not repeat as MVP, but his 2016 campaign may end up being just as valuable as last year's.

The power-hitting third baseman stayed hot on a day in which he reached three times and drove in a pair of key runs with a seventh-inning single. Donaldson now has a six-game hitting streak, with two homers and six RBI over that span.

Donaldson's fifth-inning blast was his 29th of the season, and his first since Aug. 13. Despite hitting safely in 16 of 20 games this month, the third baseman has actually seen his batting average drop a bit since the beginning of August. In addition, Donaldson's K:BB ratio is worst this month than it has been since May. On the bright side, the reigning AL MVP is riding a small four-game hitting streak in which he's amassed five RBI and scored three runs.

Donaldson had been held out of action for back-to-back games, but he'll return to third base and bat second in the order for Sunday's series finale. It's been a slow month of August for Donaldson, as a .727 OPS is a step back by his standards, but he'll look to get back on track Sunday against Corey Kluber and the Tribe.
