Donaldson extended his hitting streak to seven games with the effort, and Tuesday's marked the fifth of those games with two hits. He added a triple Tuesday, giving him five on the season, more than he hit in the past two years combined. After 84 extra-base hits in 158 games last year, Donaldson is on almost the exact same pace in 2016, with 40 extra-base hits through 77 games.

Donaldson (neck) is in the lineup Friday, batting second and playing third base.

EDGE Analysis

The reigning MVP was dealing with some neck stiffness on Toronto's getaway day Wednesday, but he was able to play through it and he'll remain in the lineup Friday. Donaldson will draw a matchup with lefty Carlos Rodon on Friday. Although Donaldson has never faced Rodon, he has an excellent track record against southpaws as evidenced by his .545 slugging percentage against them this season.

Donaldson was battling a stiff neck all day Wednesday, but talked his way into the lineup, Sportsnet's Barry Davis reports.

EDGE Analysis

He went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and two strikeouts before getting replaced by Darwin Barney on defense in the bottom of the ninth inning. The fact that he was removed in the ninth inning is not necessarily a big deal, as Barney is an excellent defender, but it may point to the fact that his neck pain got to be too much as the game went on. The Blue Jays have an off day Thursday, so hopefully that allows Donaldson to get right in advance of this weekend's series against the White Sox.

A three-home run week helped Donaldson beat out fellow Blue Jays Edwin Encarnacion and Michael Saunders to earn the AL Player of the Week award for the fourth time in his career.

Donaldson went 12 for 27 with three homers, four doubles, a triple and nine runs driven in to win the award for the first time in 2016. The 30-year-old led the league in total bases (27) and extra-base hits (8) for the week ending June 19th and tied for first in slugging percentage (1.000).

Although he was naturally overshadowed by teammate Michael Saunders' three-homer night, Donaldson is stroking a bat as hot as the latter's. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games with his fourth consecutive multi-hit effort, and is just one homer short of matching his total for all of May. The 30-year-old slugger now has round-trippers in three of his last four games, and is hitting .373 (19-for-51) with four doubles, three triples, four homers and 17 RBI over 47 at-bats in June.

This season hasn't quite been a repeat of Donaldson's MVP-worthy 2015, but he's been ramping things up in a big way of late -- over the last nine games, Donaldson's gone 16-for-34 (.471) with three homers, two steals, 13 RBI and 14 runs. He also has more walks (eight) than strikeouts (six) in that span. In fact, Donaldson has raised his walk rate to a career-high 15.1 percent this year. The 30-year-old looks like he's destined to end up in that MVP conversation again after all.

After doubling in a run in the second inning, Donaldson's 15th bomb of the year was a grand slam that gave the Blue Jays a nine-run lead in a blowout win. After a slow start to the month, he's now hit safely in his last seven games to raise his slash line to .263/.375/.535.

Donaldson went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and three runs in a 7-2 victory over the Tigers on Wednesday.

EDGE Analysis

This is the kind of game owners wanted from Donaldson, as he entered Wednesday hitless in his last 10 at-bats. The Blue Jays third baseman was a single away from the cycle, and he scored all three times he reached base. He is slashing .255/.367/.518 with 14 homers, 33 RBI and 46 runs in 220 at-bats.

Donaldson plans on playing through the pain of his jammed thumb, the Toronto Star reports.

EDGE Analysis

With Donaldson seeing so many inside pitches of late -- jamming him -- he'd actually suffered a series of thumb strains, not all of which were previously reported. The situation became intolerable following a ninth-inning strikeout on Friday. Donaldson's right-hand discomfort, apparently, had no impact on his throwing. Saturday and Sunday, Donaldson arrived early at the Rogers Centre to receive extensive treatment on the swelling, then did work in the batting cages before pronouncing himself as ready. The reigning AL MVP is known to be a tenacious competitor, and owners should continue deploying Donaldson as long as manager John Gibbons is penciling him into the lineup.

Donaldson (thumb) is in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports. He'll bat second and serve as the team's DH.

EDGE Analysis

The Blue Jays were labeling Donaldson as day-to-day after a jammed thumb prevented him from playing Saturday, but he'll require no additional time off to let the digit heal. Since he's being used as the DH, there's still reason to believe that Donaldson's injury might inhibit him in the field for a few more days, though that shouldn't stop him from occupying a regular spot in the team's lineup. Until Donaldson is ready to resume duties at third base, Matt Dominguez, who was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo and will start Sunday, may be asked to man the position.
