Gray is dealing with back tightness and was scratched from his scheduled start Friday versus the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Gray was set to make his second start of spring training, but he will now look to rest his back and be ready for his next opportunity. In his place, left-hander Taylor Hearn will take over on the mound and face San Francisco.

Gray allowed one hit over two scoreless innings in Sunday's spring game against the Guardians.
EDGE Analysis
Gray was pleased with the results but told Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News that he felt "out of whack" on the mound, which can be normal for starters in their first spring appearances. The right-hander served as Texas' ace in 2022, but the addition of Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi and Andrew Heaney pushes him further down the rotation. Like all pitchers, health is imperative for the 31-year-old Gray, who's thrown more than 150 innings twice and never more than 200, during his career. He had a 3.96 ERA and 134 strikeouts over 127.1 innings last season.

Gray didn't factor into the decision in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, giving up three runs on four hits over six innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander battled injuries in his first season with Texas and tossed only 127.1 innings, but Gray was effective when he was on the mound. Tuesday's quality start was his eighth of the year, and he'll head into the winter with a 3.96 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 134:39 K:BB. Finally free of Coors Field, the 30-year-old flashed his upside this season, and he'll look to put together a healthier campaign in 2023.

Gray allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out five over five innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Gray was back to struggling Thursday after throwing five one-hit innings in his previous start. The 30-year-old gave up two home runs to Mitch Haniger and another long ball to Jarred Kelenic, all of which plated two runs. Gray's ERA spiked to 3.93 with a 1.15 WHIP and 131:39 K:BB through 121.1 innings across 23 starts this year. The right-hander is expected to end his season with a home start versus the Yankees next week.

Gray allowed a single unearned run in five innings Friday against the Guardians, striking out just one batter but allowing just one hit, one walk and one hit by pitch. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Gray did a good job keeping the bases clean Friday, with the Guardians' only run under his watch coming on a throwing error during a stolen base attempt. The Guardians would score five runs off Taylor Hearn immediately after Gray left the game, however, denying the veteran righty the chance to secure a win. Gray tentatively lines up to face the Mariners in Seattle and the Yankees at home to close the year.

Gray (7-7) allowed two earned runs on two hits and one walk while striking out four over 4.1 innings to take the loss in a 5-1 defeat against the Rays on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Gray was making his second start since coming off the IL with an oblique strain and threw only 67 pitches. The start could be taken as a step in the right direction for Gray, who threw 45 pitches his last time out Sept 13. He has an excellent 125 strikeouts in 111.1 innings pitched this season, so he could help fantasy managers in that category as he goes deeper into games down the stretch. Gray is tentatively expected to make his next start against the Guardians.

Gray (oblique) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Monday's start against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Gray has been sidelined since the start of August due to an oblique injury, but he'll return to the mound as the starter during the second game of Monday's doubleheader against Miami. The right-hander didn't require a rehab assignment prior to being activated, so it's unclear whether he'll face any workload restrictions during Monday's nightcap.

Gray (oblique) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Marlins, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gray's oblique injury has sidelined him since the first day of August, but he looks like he's ready to get back on the bump. The right-hander didn't head out on a rehab assignment, so it's unclear what type of workload he will be able to handle in his first game back.

Gray (oblique) will throw live batting practice Wednesday and it's possible he won't need a rehab assignment before rejoining the big-league rotation, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers will evaluate Gray after Wednesday's live batting practice session to determine the next step. It's encouraging to hear Gray is on track to return in time to make a few more starts this season if he can avoid setbacks.
