After being recalled from Jacksonville on Aug. 17, Wiemer was used primarily as a short-side platoon outfielder and late-inning defensive replacement. He produced a .250/.293/.462 slash line with three home runs, 12 RBI and seven runs over 58 plate appearances.

A skilled defender, Wiemer is capable of playing all three outfield spots, but he's struggled to a .203/.315/.357 slash line across 82 games with two Triple-A clubs this season.

The Marlins will have a handful of outfielders vying for work with Stowers set to miss multiple weeks, but Wiemer could provide power and speed in the short term if it seems like he's set for steady playing time.

Once regarded as a top prospect in the Brewers' farm system, the 25-year-old Wiemer will look to turn things around with the Royals, though he will likely report to Triple-A Omaha.
