Jesse Litsch will be sidelined six weeks after having surgery to clean out an infection caused by an injection in his right shoulder. Litsch had the injection in hopes that it would calm down some inflammation. Assuming the inflammation is no longer an issue after the six weeks, the right-hander could be ready to join the Blue Jays bullpen sometime in April. The 29-year-old posted a 4.44 ERA and 66/28 K/BB ratio across 75 innings last season.

Jesse Litsch has been shut down for the next seven days due to inflammation in his shoulder. Litsch paid a visit to Dr. James Andrews on Monday and was recommended rest. If the situation doesn't improve after seven days off, the Jays will examine the issue further. Litsch, 29, posted a 4.44 ERA and 66/28 K/BB ratio across 75 innings last season.

Blue Jays and RHP Jesse Litsch avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $975,000 contract. Listch was arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter. The 29-year-old earned $830,000 this past season while posting a 4.44 ERA and 66/28 K/BB ratio over 75 innings. He was more effective as a reliever and will likely find himself in the bullpen in 2012.

Jesse Litsch pitched 2 2/3 innings of one-run ball on Wednesday en route to his first career save. He gave up two hits and struck out two without walking a batter, lowering his ERA to 4.33. With the Blue Jays up five runs to start the ninth inning, normal closer Jon Rauch simply was not needed.

The Blue Jays will decide between Zach Stewart, Jesse Litsch and Brad Mills to make Saturday's start against the Rangers. The spot was vacated when Jo-Jo Reyes was designated for assignment. "The same names that we discussed earlier are still being discussed," manager John Farrell said. "Jesse, Zach, Mills are the three. We don't anticipate Saturday's starter coming from outside the organization, at least at this point." Litsch pitched for Triple-A Las Vegas Monday, so he would be on turn to pitch Saturday. Farrell referred to him as a "strong candidate," so he could be the favorite for the gig.
