The outing covered two innings. Crain missed about two weeks of Cactus League action with a sore oblique, but he appears likely to be ready for the start of the season.

Jesse Crain (oblique) threw 40 pitches Sunday and is scheduled to pitch in an exhibition game Tuesday.
Cain hasn't pitched in a game since March 12, but looks to be on track of Opening Day. Prior to the injury, Crain was hoping to win the White Sox closer job. Hector Santiago also remains a candidate to close this season.

Good news for the veteran right-hander. Crain is hoping to win the White Sox closer job, but he's missed enough time that he might be ruled out of the competition. He should have enough time to be ready for Opening Day, though.

He also made 20 tosses in front of the mound. Crain suffered a right oblique strain last week, but hopes to throw a bullpen session Friday. Barring any setbacks, he still has enough time to get ramped up for the start of the season.

Crain hasn't pitched since March 12 due to a slight right oblique strain. He's making progress, but still feels some tightness when he gets throwing past 100 feet. There's still time for him to get ready for the season, but the White Sox likely won't rush him back.

"We'll see how that goes," said Chicago manager Robin Ventura. "He's been in with [White Sox head athletic trainer] Herm [Schneider], and Herm's not worried about it, so I'm not worried about it." We still expect Crain to be ready for Opening Day.

The White Sox are calling the right-handed setup man "day-to-day." Crain will only need a handful of Cactus League innings to get properly tuned up for the season.
