Chavez allowed one hit and struck out two through a scoreless ninth inning to record his first save in a 9-7 win over the Mariners on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez allowed a single, but made quick work of the Mariners to nail down his first save. The right-hander received the save opportunity after Jose Leclerc blew a save Sunday, but this appears to be a committee going forward. Chavez has a 4.42 ERA with a 8.5 K/9 and a 2.7 BB/9 through 43 appearances this season.

Chavez will pitch out of the bullpen moving forward, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez didn't even make it out of the first inning during Wednesday's start, surrendering seven runs over just two-thirds of an inning before being removed. As a result, he'll move to a relief role. The right-hander owns a 4.72 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with a 62:20 K:BB over 68.2 innings this season (nine starts).

Chavez (3-5) gave up seven runs on five hits and one walk while striking out none through 0.2 innings to take the loss against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez allowed seven baserunners and seven runs before being removed without making it through the first inning. The 35-year-old has a 4.72 ERA and an 8.1 K/9 with a 2.6 BB/9 through 39 appearances this season. Chavez will look to get back on track in his next start Monday against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park.

Chavez didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 9-8 win over the Astros, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over 5.1 innings while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
It was a wild night at Globe Life Park, with the two teams combining for nine homers and Chavez only escaping his third straight loss thanks to a late Texas rally from an 8-4 deficit. The right-hander now has a 3.84 ERA and 62:19 K:BB through 68 innings, and with the Rangers getting two off days next week, Chavez should receive some extra rest before his next start.

Chavez (3-4) took the loss Saturday, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings against Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
The 35-year-old permitted three runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth as he could not get big outs with men on base. Chavez had done well in his previous three starts, throwing 17.1 innings and allowing just four earned runs with an 18:0 K:BB. He'll take a respectable 3.30 ERA and 1.29 WHIP into the All-Star Break along with a 59:17 K:BB for the season.

Chavez (3-3) yielded four runs (three earned) on five hits across six innings Sunday, striking out eight and taking the loss against Tampa Bay.
EDGE Analysis
Most of the damage against Chavez came in the fourth and fifth innings, when he allowed three runs, including a solo shot from Tommy Pham. His season ERA bumped to 2.97 in 57.2 innings. For now, it appears that Chavez should stick around the Rangers' rotation. He is scheduled to make his next start in Minnesota on Friday.

Chavez (3-2) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one unearned run on five hits over 6.1 innings while striking out seven in a 5-3 victory over the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
It was the 35-year-old's longest outing in over two years, and while the quality of the opponent has to be taken into consideration, Chavez bought himself some job security in his new role as the Rangers' fifth starter. He'll carry a 2.79 ERA and 48:15 K:BB through 51.2 innings into his next outing Sunday in Tampa Bay.

The Rangers confirmed Thursday that Chavez will enter the rotation as the club's new fifth starter, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
He'll fill the spot previously occupied by Drew Smyly and Joe Palumbo, who were both banished to the minors after ugly showings as a long reliever and starter, respectively, over the last two days. Chavez has made 74 career big-league starts, but he's been deployed as an opener for each of his four "starts" this season. As such, he could face a restricted pitch count in his first two turns through the rotation while he transitions from a bullpen role, though he did build up to a season-high five innings while working behind Palumbo in Wednesday's 10-4 loss. Chavez's first start will come Tuesday in Detroit, per Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Chavez allowed one run on four hits while striking out three over five innings of relief in Wednesday's loss to the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez was needed early and picked up the bullpen as rookie starter Joe Palumbo couldn't get out of the third inning. This was the second straight appearance in which Chavez threw multiple innings -- he tossed three scoreless frames as an opener last Friday. The Rangers bequeathed their fifth starter job to Palumbo prior to Wednesday's start, but they may be rethinking that decision. If they are, manager Chris Woodward may want to consider Chavez, who has made 70 career starts in the majors, not including his four appearances as an opener this season.

Chavez gave up one hit and struck out four over three scoreless innings as the opener in Friday's 7-1 win over the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Even though it was his longest appearance of the season, the veteran right-hander didn't last long enough to qualify for the win, but Chavez got the Rangers headed in the right direction, firing 32 of 47 pitches for strikes. He'll likely remain in a long-relief/opener role, but his 3.35 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 38:15 K:BB over 40.1 innings comes with two wins and six holds, giving him modest fantasy value in some deep formats.
