Chavez has nailed down a spot in the Rangers' bullpen, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez was roughed up in the Cactus League, giving up eight runs and 12 hits over eight innings. The veteran right-hander excelled in 2018, which he credited to lowering his arm angle. He'll do a little bit of everything in the pen, which means eating innings when needed or being deployed in high-leverage situations.

Chavez credits a tweak he made in his delivery that produced a career-best 2.55 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 2018, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
While still with the Rangers early in 2018, at the behest of pitching instructor Hector Ortiz, Chavez lowered his arm angle slightly and released the ball more like an infielder. This resulted in an uptick in velocity and more movement on his fastball. From that point until he was traded to the Cubs on July 19, the right-hander compiled a 2.31 ERA while holding hitters to a .215 batting average in 35 innings. The success continued with the Cubs, for whom he had a 1.15 ERA in 39 innings. Back with the Rangers in 2019, Chavez figures to be a key piece of the back end of the bullpen.

Chavez agreed to a two-year contract with the Rangers on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The deal is reportedly worth around $8 million, per Passan. Chavez opened the 2018 season with Texas before being dealt to the Cubs in July. He posted a combined 2.55 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 95.1 innings with both teams but excelled once joining Chicago, notching four saves while posting a 1.15 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 42:5 K:BB across 39 innings for the Cubs. While he likely won't dethrone Jose Leclerc as the Rangers' closer, Chavez should immediately step in as the team's primary setup man in 2019.

Chavez recorded the save in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Pirates. He allowed a hit and struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
After Justin Wilson blew a save opportunity Wednesday, the Cubs turned to Chavez in this one and got better results. The veteran righty has been a valuable addition to the Chicago bullpen, and he now has a solid 2.63 ERA this season along with five saves. Chavez figures to get some high-leverage work in the playoffs.

Chavez allowed two baserunners but pitched a scoreless 10th inning with two strikeouts to record the save in Thursday's win over the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
With Pedro Strop getting used in the bottom of the ninth inning, Chavez got the call for the 10th with the Cubs up 6-4. The 35-year-old gave up a hit and a walk to get into some trouble, but he also struck out Washington sluggers Bryce Harper and Juan Soto. Chavez now has a strong 2.92 ERA this season, and he's been a welcome addition to the Chicago bullpen since coming over in late July.

Chavez struck out both batters he faced to record the save in Monday's 7-4 win over the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
It didn't look like Chavez would be in line for a save in this one, as the Cubs brought out Pedro Strop to begin the ninth inning. However, he put two runners on while retiring just one, and then Justin Wilson failed to retire Jay Bruce in a lefty-lefty matchup. That's when Joe Maddon turned to Chavez, and the 35-year-old struck out two hitters with the bases loaded to end the game. Chavez has excelled since coming over to Chicago, and this clutch performance should only boost his standing in the bullpen pecking order.

Chavez (3-2) took his first loss in a Cubs uniform Wednesday against the Padres, as he allowed two earned runs while retiring two batters.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez relieved Chicago starter Mike Montgomery with one on and one out in the top of the sixth inning, and proceeded to allow a single followed by a decisive three-run home run that put the Padres up 3-1. This was the veteran righty's first misstep with the Cubs, as he entered the night having recorded nine scoreless innings over his first six appearances with his new team. Chavez still holds a solid 3.27 ERA and should remain a trusted option in the Chicago bullpen.

Chavez tossed three scoreless inning in Saturday's loss to the Cardinals, and he now has eight scoreless innings over his first five appearances with the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez has been a valuable addition to the Chicago bullpen, and his past experience as a starter allows him to give his new team multiple innings like he did Saturday. The 34-year-old righty now boasts a strong 3.08 ERA this season.

Chavez, who struck out all three batters he faced in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks, has pitched four perfect innings with six strikeouts since joining the Cubs Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
The Cubs needed a bullpen boost with several relievers dealing with injuries, and Chavez has delivered in his first three appearances since the team acquired him in a trade Thursday. The 34-year-old righty has a solid 3.28 ERA this season and figures to remain a key member of the Chicago relief corps the rest of the way.

Chavez is with the Cubs for the team's Saturday doubleheader against the Cardinals, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez was acquired by the Cubs on Thursday and figures to make his team debut soon in a long-relief role. Prior to arriving in Chicago, the 34-year-old righty had been having a nice season in Texas, tossing 56.1 innings in relief with a 3.51 ERA. With Brandon Morrow, Justin Hancock and Anthony Bass all currently on the disabled list, the Cubs could certainly use a boost from Chavez in their bullpen.
