Chavez (0-1) took the loss Wednesday as Atlanta fell to the Brewers, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit while only recording one out.
EDGE Analysis
Kenley Jansen and Darren O'Day each blew saves in the ninth and 10th innings as Atlanta couldn't put the game away, and after Chavez got the final out of the 10th, he completed the bullpen collapse by serving up a leadoff blast to Keston Hiura in the bottom of the 11th. Chavez remains in a low-leverage role and has yet to record a win, save or hold through 11 appearances, with his 4.40 ERA and 1.47 WHIP offering little fantasy value.

Chavez is starting Friday's game against the Brewers, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez's first eight appearances of the season have come as a reliever, and he's posted a 2.84 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB in 12.2 innings. However, he'll draw the start in Friday's series opener against Milwaukee after Bryce Elder and Kyle Muller were recently demoted. The right-hander made just four starts in 2021, so it's possible he moves back to the bullpen following Friday's outing.

Chavez was traded from the Cubs to Atlanta on Wednesday in exchange for Sean Newcomb and cash considerations.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez signed a split deal with Chicago in March but will now return to Atlanta, where he spent the 2021 campaign. He had a 2.14 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB over 33.2 innings for the reigning champs last year.

Chavez's contract was selected by the Cubs on Saturday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 38-year-old looked like he might be toast following the 2020 season, as he struggled to a 6.88 ERA that year while posting a 16.9 percent strikeout rate. He bounced back in a big way last season, however, posting a career-best 2.14 ERA in 33.2 innings for Atlanta as his strikeout rate jumped all the way up to a career-high 27.1 percent.

Chavez allowed an unearned run across two innings to pick up the win in Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Athletics. He gave up two hits and struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran reliever is in camp as a non-roster invitee, though he seems pretty likely to earn a bullpen role. Chavez pitched for the Cubs along with the Rangers back in 2018, when he posted a strong 2.55 ERA across 95.1 innings. He was good with Atlanta last year as well, registering a 2.14 ERA and 1.01 WHIP while striking out 36 batters across 33.2 innings. Chavez should slot in somewhere in front of closer Rowan Wick and could see high-leverage work this season.

Chavez agreed to a contract Sunday with the Cubs, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. He will join the team on a minor-league/split contract, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though the 38-year-old right-hander will be attending Cubs camp as a non-roster invitee, he's not only a good bet to make the Opening Day roster, but to also fill a prominent role out of the bullpen right away. Chavez proved to be a quality middle-inning option for the World Series champion Atlanta squad in 2021, submitting a 2.14 ERA and 1.01 WHIP while striking out 36 over 33.2 innings. He'll give a talent-barren Cubs bullpen a setup option for presumptive closer Rowan Wick after Codi Heuer (elbow) recently underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Chavez tossed a perfect first inning in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers in Game 4 of the NLCS. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez stepped in on short notice Wednesday after Huascar Ynoa (shoulder) was scratched, and he required just 11 pitches to get through the first inning. The right-hander still hasn't allowed a run in 4.1 innings across five postseason appearances, and he should be available as a reliever for the remainder of the series following Wednesday's short outing.

Chavez will start Game 4 of the NLCS against the Dodgers on Wednesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Huascar Ynoa was poised to start Wednesday's bullpen game for Atlanta, but he was a late scratch with shoulder inflammation. Chavez will instead open things up in Game 4, and he has yet to allow an earned run across 3.1 innings this postseason. The 38-year-old is unlikely to pitch much more than an inning before giving way to the likes of Drew Smyly or A.J. Minter, who are more likely to cover multiple frames.

Chavez will start Saturday's game against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez will likely serve as an opener in Saturday's matchup since Atlanta plans to utilize its bullpen in the penultimate game of the regular season. The right-hander has recorded a 0.79 ERA and 0.71 WHIP in 11.1 innings across his last 11 appearances.

Chavez will start Sunday's game against the Padres, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Chavez will once again serve as an opener with Atlanta employing a bullpen game for the series finale in San Diego. The veteran right-hander has a 2.37 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 34:11 K:BB over 30.1 innings this season, and he's unlikely to pitch much more than an inning Sunday.
