Jesse Chavez continued his eye-opening start to the 2014 season, striking out nine and allowing only one earned run (two total) on four hits in a tough-luck no-decision against the Angels on Monday. The right-hander walked zero over seven innings for the second consecutive outing. There's no other way to put it: Chavez's luck this season has been rotten. He's allowed only one earned run apiece in all three starts, totaling 20 innings, and has precisely zero wins to show for it despite Oakland's three victories. He owns a spectacular 1.35 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 22/2 K/BB rate thus far. Chavez's slate hasn't been overly difficult -- Mariners, Twins and Angels -- but these results demand mixed league attention. Not for nothing, Chavez has a spectacular matchup this weekend against the Astros.

Jesse Chavez was robbed of a win for the second straight start Wednesday, tossing seven innings of one-run ball while striking out nine in a 7-4 extra-inning victory over the Twins Wednesday. Chavez served up a solo homer to Jason Kubel in the second but was otherwise in control, giving up five singles with no walks. The right-hander was in line for the victory before the A's blew a two-run lead in the ninth. Chavez boasts a 1.38 ERA and 13/2 K/BB ratio over his first 13 innings this season, putting him on the radar in mixed leagues. He'll get the Angels in Anaheim next week.

Jesse Chavez looked solid in a no-decision on Thursday against the Mariners, allowing two runs -- one earned -- on five hits and two talks. He struck out four. Chavez opened the season as Oakland's No. 4 starter despite having made only two starts in his six-year career. The 30-year-old Californian looked destined to wash out of the majors after he posted a 5.99 ERA between 2008-2012, the first five seasons of his career. Things got so bad that the Blue Jays simply accepted cash from the A's for his services in August 2012. Chavez has discovered whatever he was missing when he slipped on the green and gold, parlaying a good 2013 season as a reliever into a starting gig when Jarrod Parker and A.J. Griffin went down. He's a useful AL-only piece, and has a spectacular matchup next time out in Minnesota.

Jesse Chavez took a no-hitter into the sixth inning Friday in Oakland's 4-1 win over San Francisco. Chavez left after allowing one hit in 5 1/3 innings, which was more than good enough to get him his fifth spring victory. He'll open up as Oakland's No. 3 starter, making him a nice play in AL-only leagues.

Jesse Chavez was hit hard in Sunday's loss to the Cubs, surrendering five runs on seven hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work. Even with the poor line, he still showed his promise by punching out six and walking just one. All of the damage came in a five-run uprising in the sixth inning, where he allowed back-to-back homers to Junior Lake and Luis Valbuena. He still owns a 2.74 ERA and a 20/5 K/BB ratio over 23 innings.

Jesse Chavez allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings during Tuesday's start against the White Sox. Both runs came on solo home runs to Conor Gillaspie and Tyler Flowers. As a result of injuries to Jarrod Parker and A.J. Griffin, Chavez will start the season in the starting rotation, despite having made only two starts in his six-year career.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin confirmed Tuesday that Jesse Chavez will begin the season in the starting rotation. An expected move after the recent injuries to Jarrod Parker and A.J. Griffin. Chavez enjoyed success out of the A's bullpen last season, but he owns a 5.48 ERA in the majors and all but two of his 191 career appearances at the big league level have come in relief. While he's been impressive this spring, he's not a recommended option outside of AL-only leagues.

Jesse Chavez is expected to open the season in the Athletics' rotation following the injuries to Jarrod Parker (forearm) and A.J. Griffin (elbow). Chavez has looked great this spring, tossing 12 2/3 scoreless innings with a 12/2 K/BB ratio. He put up a 3.92 ERA in 35 relief appearances for the A's last season but had a 2.70 mark in five starts at the Triple-A level. Chavez isn't worth a look in fantasy outside of AL-only formats.

Athletics and RHP Jesse Chavez avoided arbitration by agreeing on a one-year contract. No word on the terms involved. Chavez, 30, was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter after posting a 3.92 ERA and 55/20 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 innings in 2013.

Jesse Chavez earned a four-inning save in Sunday's victory over the Royals. Chavez allowed no runs on three hits and a walk, striking out four. It was the reliever's first career save. Despite enjoying a nice campaign -- 3.16 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 31 1/3 frames -- don't expect Chavez to earn another in 2013.
