Allen suffered a sprained UCL in his left thumb during a dive into first base Saturday while playing at High-A Dayton, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Allen was sidelined with an elbow injury during spring training and now figures to be out several weeks with a thumb issue. The 20-year-old is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Reds' No. 12 prospect.

Allen (elbow) has appeared in each of High-A Dayton's first three games, going 1-for-9 with a run scored and five strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Allen exited a March 13 Cactus League game with a minor elbow injury, from which he was able to make a full recovery ahead of the minor-league season. The 20-year-old outfielder is expected to handle a near-everyday role at Dayton this season.

Reds manager David Bell said "all is well" regarding Allen's elbow injury, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Allen injured his elbow while making an error in center field during Monday's loss to the Brewers, though it seems to be nothing serious. The 20-year-old outfield prospect is currently hitting 2-for-5 this spring and will likely begin the season with High-A Dayton.

Allen was removed from Monday's Cactus League game versus the Brewers with an apparent injury, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Allen made an error in center field on a play in the seventh inning and apparently injured himself in the process. The Reds should have more on the prospect's status soon.

Allen went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Tuesday for High-A Dayton after receiving a promotion from Single-A Daytona.
EDGE Analysis
Allen earned the bump up to High-A after he slashed .230/.360/.348 with four home runs and 31 stolen bases in 301 plate appearances for Daytona. The 19-year-old outfielder showed a discerning eye at the plate (13.8 percent walk rate), and his 6-foot-3 frame should lend itself well to increasing his power production as he adds more strength.

Allen isn't yet hitting for power at Single-A Daytona, but he's walked 26 times in 165 plate appearances there, good for a .244/.401/.354 line.
EDGE Analysis
It's unusual for a 19-year-old to have such a good batting eye, but Allen showed the same tendencies last year in rookie ball. The 2021 30th overall draft pick will probably spend most of the season in Daytona. It's too soon to write off his power potential, both due to his age and because the Florida State League has a lot of tough power parks.

Allen will likely begin the 2022 season for Low-A Daytona in the Florida State League, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. He hit .328/.440/.557 in the Arizona Complex League after getting drafted with the 30th overall pick in last year's draft.
EDGE Analysis
Allen has really impressed the Reds with his athleticism and early results, though the team has cautioned that he's still really raw. He's been working a lot with Eric Davis, who is now a special assistant to the general manager for player development. "Jay still has a lot of high school tendencies, which is normal," Davis said. "He still runs high school-ish and throws high school-ish, but his talent is enormous."
