Vargas allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out 10 across 6.1 innings Wednesday against the Phillies. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Though he didn't allow any runs through the first two frames, Vargas found his groove in the middle innings, at one point retiring 11 consecutive batters -- seven of which came on strikeouts. The only major blemish in his line came on a solo home run by Jean Segura in the sixth inning. Despite that, it was an excellent outing for Vargas as his season-high 10 strikeouts were backed up by 16 swinging strikes on 77 total pitches. Vargas has been surprisingly effective this season, maintaining a 3.66 ERA and 1.28 WHIP to go along with a 57:28 K:BB across 66.1 innings. He'll look to keep things going in his next start, currently scheduled for Tuesday against the Yankees.

Vargas allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks across 4.2 innings during a no-decision against the Cubs on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Entering the fifth, Vargas had yielded just two unearned runs, but he tossed up a homer in the frame that cost him a chance at the win. The Mets let Vargas face three batters after giving up the lead, but he still didn't make it out of the fifth to qualify for the win anyway. Failing to make it through the fifth is common for Vargas, but he hasn't yielded more than three earned runs in any of his last 10 outings. Vargas is 3-3 with a 3.75 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 47 strikeouts in 60 innings this season. He will make his next start at the Phillies on Wednesday.

Vargas (calf) is listed as the Mets' probable pitcher for Friday's game against the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas' inclusion in the Mets' pitching schedule implies that the team has no concern for the southpaw's health after he was forced to exit his previous start Sunday against the Cardinals due to cramping in his left calf. Unless he experiences a setback with the calf in his pre-start bullpen session Tuesday or Wednesday, Vargas shouldn't face any restrictions when he returns to the bump in Chicago. His abbreviated outing last weekend ended a streak of three consecutive quality starts.

Vargas (calf) isn't expected to miss his next start after leaving Sunday's game against St. Louis, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas reportedly felt his calf cramp in the top of the fourth inning, and his hamstring also cramped in the bottom of the frame while batting. Despite this, the Mets believe he'll be ready to take the ball for his upcoming start, which lines up for Friday at the Cubs.

Vargas was removed from Sunday's start versus the Cardinals with a left calf cramp, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas suffered the cramp while at the plate in the fourth inning and was unable to finish his at-bat. The 36-year-old allowed three runs (two earned) over four innings prior to leaving the game, but it looks as though he avoided a serious injury.

Vargas (3-3) earned the win in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Yankees by allowing three runs on seven hits across six innings. He struck out three and walked two.
EDGE Analysis
Vargas labored through the first four frames -- including a three-run third inning -- but calmed down during the fifth and sixth innings to notch his third straight quality start. The veteran lefty has turned his disastrous start to the season into a respectable 3.68 ERA and 1.36 WHIP, and he will look to continue his strong string of performances Monday in Atlanta.

Vargas (2-3) picked up the win in Wednesday's 7-0 victory over the Giants, scattering five hits and a walk while striking out eight in his eighth career shutout.
EDGE Analysis
After Joe Panik led off the game with a double, Vargas didn't allow a runner into scoring position the rest of the night. The veteran lefty lowered his ERA nearly a full run to 3.57 while boosting his K:BB to 37:19 through 45.1 innings, and he'll look to keep rolling Monday, on the road against the Yankees.

Vargas (1-3) gave up only one run in seven innings against the Dodgers on Tuesday but was pinned with the loss. He allowed six hits and three walks while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
It looked like it was going to be a long night for Vargas after the Dodgers scored a run on a triple and a double after only two batters, but the lefty fought his way out of the jam and did not allow another run for the remainder of his seven innings. Unfortunately, he was outpitched by Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu, who blanked the Mets for 7.2 innings. The quality start was the first of the season for Vargas and he has now held opponents to two runs in 12 innings since his return from the injured list with a hamstring injury. He'll face the Giants on Wednesday in his next scheduled start.

Vargas allowed one run on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks during a no-decision against the Tigers on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Pitching for the first time since May 5, Vargas permitted the Tigers to place a runner in scoring position in every inning except one, but they only managed to score one run. Dating back to before his hamstring injury, Vargas has allowed only one run in four of his last five outings. However, he's still trying to make up for yielding eight runs over 1.1 innings during two appearances in the middle of April. Mostly for that reason, he's still 1-2 with a 5.22 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 23 strikeouts in 29.1 innings. He is scheduled to pitch again Thursday against the Dodgers.
