Hammel (11-5) threw six shutout innings and allowed just four hits and two walks in a win Tuesday over the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Since allowing a season-worst 10 runs July 1 against the Mets, Hammel has allowed two or fewer runs in each of his five starts. Hammel owns a 3.07 ERA -- remove that disastrous July 1 start, and it falls to 2.40. Combine his consistency with the excellent Cubs offense and Hammel should be in line for plenty more wins over the stretch run.

Hammel (10-5) cruised through seven innings in Wednesday's 8-1 blowout of the White Sox, allowing just a single run on five hits. He struck out seven and walked two.
EDGE Analysis
That's now three consecutive wins for Hammel and four straight starts of two or fewer runs since the ERA-ruining 10-run disaster that opened his month of July. Without that game, he'd have a 2.53 ERA instead of his current 3.23 -- but hey, they all count. Nonetheless, despite seeing his strikeout rate dip and walk rate rise from last year, he's still sitting on the best ERA of his career. The caveat is that both his BABIP and strand rate have been friendlier than he deserves, so it still seems reasonable to expect regression down the stretch from the 33-year-old.

Hammel (9-5) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings to earn the win Friday at the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Hammel was staked to a 4-0 lead in the second inning before allowing single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, leading to his exit from the contest after throwing only 76 pitches. After allowing 10 runs on July 1, he's now held opponents to two runs or fewer in each of his last three starts to lower his ERA to 3.35 on the season. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the White Sox.

Hammel (hand) is in the lineup as the starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Rangers, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
As expected, Hammel will make his first scheduled start following the All-Star break. He had exited his final first half start with cramping in his hand, but the ailment was never considered serious.

Hammel (hand) has been announced as the starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Rangers, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hammel exited his final first half start with cramping in his right hand, but it appears the setback will not cost him any further action. The Cubs' lineup for Saturday's contest will provide final confirmation on whether or not Hammel will be able to take his turn as scheduled.

Hammel (7-5) allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings, but received no decision Thursday against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
After giving up a two-run homer, Hammel settled down and held the Braves scoreless until he had to leave the game with cramps in his pitching hand. He left the game with a 2-0 deficit, and was on the hook for a potential loss until the Cubs' offense came up with a three-run eighth inning. Although he hasn't posted a win since June 4, he still has a respectable 3.46 ERA along with a 1.13 WHIP on the year. As long as his injury checks out well, as expected, he'll make his next start after the All-Star break.

Hammel exited Thursday's start with cramping in his pitching hand.
EDGE Analysis
A leadoff, four-pitch walk to Gordon Beckham in the top of the fifth inning was followed by a long mound visit from the Cubs' training staff. Ultimately, manager Joe Maddon opted to take the cautious route with Hammel and remove him from the game after just 80 pitches due to the cramping in his right hand. Fortunately, the upcoming All-Star break should give Hammel enough downtime to where he can make his next scheduled start. That said, the Cubs will do their due diligence in the coming days to make sure that Hammel's injury isn't more serious than the initial diagnosis.

Hammel (7-5) gave up nine hits, five of which left the yard, 10 earned runs and two walks over four innings in Friday's 10-2 loss to the Mets. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
It was a nightmarish outing for the veteran righty, who gave up a pair of homers in two different innings, and a 435-shot to rookie Brandon Nimmo in the fourth as well. James Loney and Asdrubal Cabrera took him deep in the second, while Yoenis Cespedes and Cabrera did the honors in the fifth. Hammel has seen his ERA rise in each of his last three starts, all losses. He's dropped four straight decisions overall, and his ERA is now at a season-high 3.45. The 33-year-old will try to reverse course when he takes the mound next Wednesday against the Reds.

Hammel (7-4) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings while striking out three in Sunday's loss to the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
It was Hammel's ninth quality start of the year but he wasn't quite able to keep pace with a dominant Jose Fernandez. His 2.58 ERA on the season is still by far the best of Hammel's career though. He'll next take the mound on the road Friday against the Mets.

Hammel (7-4) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing four runs, six hits and a walk while striking out three in Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Entering the game, Hammel was 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA over 13.1 innings against the Cardinals in 2016, but the division rival finally got to him Tuesday. The veteran right-hander was done in by a pair of third-inning home runs -- courtesy of Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday -- that accounted for three runs in three batters. Hammel continues to give owners a headache with his inconsistency, but still owns an impressive 2.55 ERA through 14 starts.
