Jason Hammel allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Padres on Sunday. Hammel was done in by one bad inning, as all three of his runs against -- only one of which he allowed -- came in the sixth inning. He was otherwise his typical stingy self, giving up just three hits and two walks with five strikeouts on the day. Even with the loss, the right-hander has a 3.08 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in 10 starts. He'll face the Brewers in Milwaukee on Saturday.

Jason Hammel (hand) expects to be fine for his scheduled start on Sunday in San Diego. Hammel got hit on the right hand with a comebacker during Tuesday's game and admitted that he "thought my hand exploded." However, X-rays came back clean and he's been diagnosed with a bone bruise. Assuming he doesn't have a setback, he'll be ready to roll this weekend.

Jason Hammel tossed 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball in the Cubs' 6-1 win over the Yankees on Tuesday. It was a great bounceback effort from Hammel, who was shelled for five runs in 5 1/3 innings last Thursday against the Cardinals. He fanned six Yankees on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field and issued just one walk, improving to 5-2 with a 2.91 ERA and 0.90 WHIP through nine starts. If he can keep it up, the 31-year-old right-hander will be excellent trade bait for the Cubs in July. Hammel gets the Padres in San Diego next and remains a must-start in all mixed fantasy leagues.

Jason Hammel surrendered five runs in 5 1/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Cardinals. Hammel had his streak of seven straight quality starts snapped in his one, but it was really all one bad inning; four of the runs came in the second. After that, he retired nine in a row before getting into trouble in the sixth and getting pulled. He'll be worth using in mixed leagues next week with the Diamondbacks on the schedule.

Hammel struck out five and walked two on the evening. He was also able to contribute with the bat, driving home a pair of runs with a single in the fourth inning. He has posted a terrific 2.43 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 32/9 K/BB ratio through his first 40 2/3 innings on the year. He'll look to keep things rolling when he takes on the White Sox in Chicago on Thursday.

The right-hander has been nothing short of terrific this season, as the win moved him to 4-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 0.69 WHIP. Hammel has another stiff test Saturday when he takes on the Cardinals.

Jason Hammel held the Diamondbacks to one run on four hits over seven innings in the Cubs' 9-2 victory on Tuesday. Hammel's only mistake on the night was giving up a home run to backup catcher Tuffy Gosewisch. Otherwise, he was nearly perfect, allowing only three singles while not walking a batter. The great outing leaves him with a 3-1 record, 2.60 ERA and 0.69 WHIP through four starts, and while it's not always sexy, Hammel has mixed league value when he's going this well. He takes on the Brewers in Miller Park on Sunday.

He struck out five batters, throwing 66 of his 92 pitches for strikes. The 31-year-old right-hander is finally healthy and appears ready to provide fantasy value again. He will take on this same Pirates team next week at Wrigley Field.
