The mostly crisp outing lowered Kaprielian's ERA to 3.66 since his return to the big leagues May 20, and it also featured his first outing without a walk since April 22. Kaprielian has now won two consecutive starts after not recording a win through April and May. He'll have a tough matchup in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to come against the Rays early next week.

Kaprielian allowed three or fewer runs for the third time over his past four starts, but he still suffered his sixth loss of the season. The veteran right-hander moved to a relief role in mid-April before being sent to Triple-A Las Vegas, but he got another shot in the rotation in mid-May with Drew Rucinski (illness) and Paul Blackburn (finger) sideliend and has been relatively successful. Blackburn has since been activated, but Kaprielian appears to have done enough to remain in the rotation for the time being. His next start is tentatively scheduled during a three-game set in Pittsburgh.

That's still notably better than his 8.45 ERA and 1.88 WHIP for the season, but it may not be enough to maintain a starting role once Paul Blackburn (finger) is activated from the injured list. If Kaprielian gets another start, it would likely be a somewhat favorable road date in Miami next week.

Despite striking out seven while limiting the Rangers to three runs over seven innings in his spot start Saturday, Kaprielian will head back to the minors after Oakland called up right-hander Garrett Acton in a corresponding move. Based on his performance during his latest stint in the majors, Kaprielian could be first in line for a promotion the next time the Athletics require a starter.
