Jake Westbrook turned in a quality start in Thursday's win over the White Sox, allowing just three runs on five hits over his six innings of work. He struck out one and didn't walk a hitter in the game. The only damage against him and the Cardinals bullpen on the night was Adam Dunn's three-run moonshot in the sixth inning. Westbrook has now delivered a pair of consecutive quality starts after struggling for most of the month of May and early June. He'll look to keep the ball rolling when he squares off against Justin Verlander and the Tigers in Detroit on Wednesday.

Jake Westbrook gave up five runs and nine hits in five innings Sunday in a loss to the Mets. It's the third straight start in which he's given up at least five runs. Westbrook had his sinker working great during March and April, but he's not getting the same movement of late. Hopefully, a delivery tweak will get him turned around soon.

Jake Westbrook was pounded by the Phillies on Thursday to the tune of six runs on eight hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work. Westbrook fanned four and walked three in the brief outing. Thanks to the powerful Cardinals offense however, he did not pick up a loss in the game. Even with the rough outing, he still sits at 4-3 with a 3.38 ERA on the season. He'll try to put this poor effort behind him and get back in the win column when he takes on the Braves in Atlanta on Tuesday.

Jake Westbrook fell to 3-2 on Thursday, yielding four runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings against the Pirates. It was easily his worst start of the season, as he was unable to hold an early 2-0 lead. And in the second inning, Westbrook singled and stole second base, marking his first theft attempt in 17 seasons of professional baseball.

Jake Westbrook turned in a very strong performance against the Brewers on Friday, allowing just one run on seven hits through seven innings. Westbrook didn't walk a batter and racked up five strikeouts in the game. He had all of his pitches working in this one and kept Brewer hitters off-balance all night long. He improves to 3-1 on the season and owns a very impressive 1.30 ERA. He'll look to further improve those marks when he takes on the Pirates next week.

Jake Westbrook pitched well Monday in his first outing of the season, holding the Reds to one unearned run on three hits and four walks over seven frames in the 7-1 win. He struck out a pair. Westbrook's early control issues might have been a result of the fact that he was pitching on nine days' rest, as all four walks were issued in the first two innings before he settled in. The lone run scored on a throwing error of his own. The veteran righty lost weight over the offseason and had a terrific spring training, so a bounce-back year could be in order. He'll face the Cubs this weekend.

Jake Westbrook allowed just a run and two hits over 5 2/3 innings Saturday against the Nationals. Westbrook's fine spring continues, as he improved to 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA. This was his last official outing, but as the Cards' No. 5 starter, he'll pitch once more in a minor league game before making his first regular-season start on April 9.

In a game that was later postponed, Jake Westbrook allowed one run in three innings Sunday against the Nationals. He got six outs on the ground and two via the K. Westbrook, who is in much better shape this spring, has given up one run in five innings to date. No one is counting on him after his disappointing 2011, but he might have a little value in NL-only leagues.

Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch notes that Jake Westbrook showed up at Cardinals' camp about 25 pounds lighter. Westbrook returned to the Cardinals last winter on a two-year, $16.5 million deal, but posted a disappointing 4.66 ERA across 183 1/3 innings over 33 starts in 2011. His status could change if St. Louis adds free agent Roy Oswalt, but he currently projects as the club's fifth starter this season.
