McGee has retired all nine batters he's faced so far this spring, striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
If the Giants were to deploy a true closer this season, McGee would have a very good shot at the role. He's coming off a season in which he struck out 33 batters and walked just three in 20.1 innings, finishing with a 2.66 ERA and 0.84 WHIP. Manager Gabe Kapler is unlikely to suddenly become a traditionalist, however, so some sort of committee-based approach seems likely. McGee should still earn a handful of ninth-inning opportunities in that setup, as he's the clear top southpaw in the San Francisco bullpen.

McGee signed a two-year, $7 million deal with the Giants on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
McGee recorded an excellent 2.77 ERA over his first six years in the league as a Ray before struggling to a 4.78 mark over the next four years as a Rockie, a difference seemingly too large to be attributable purely to Coors Field. In 20.1 innings with the Dodgers last year, however, he was in vintage form, backing up his 2.66 ERA with an incredible combination of a 41.8 percent strikeout rate and 3.8 percent walk rate while seeing his fastball jump by a tick and a half to 95.0 mph. Now 34 years old, it's unclear quite how long the southpaw can keep up that level of performance, but even a modest regression would keep him as one of the best relievers in San Francisco and would likely earn him a handful of saves as part of the Giants' closer committee.

McGee (2-1) took the loss against Texas on Friday, allowing four runs on four hits and notching one strikeout in one-third of an inning.
EDGE Analysis
McGee entered the contest having yielded only one run in 11.1 innings on the season, but his ERA ballooned to 3.86 after the Rangers knocked him around Friday. The left-hander gave up a home run to the first batter he faced (Derek Dietrich), then yielded singles to three of the following four batters before he was lifted. McGee isn't likely to lose his manager's trust based on one poor outing, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him used in a high-leverage role next time he takes the mound.

McGee (2-0) earned the win Saturday against the Angels. He pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out one.
EDGE Analysis
McGee came out of the bullpen in the eighth inning and proved his worth in another high-leverage situation, as he didn't allow a baserunner for the fifth time in his last six appearances. The 34-year-old reliever has allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out 12 over 8.2 innings in nine appearances this season.

McGee (1-0) pitched an inning, striking out one and allowing no baserunners to earn the win Sunday versus the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
McGee was called on to get the last out of the seventh inning. The Dodgers took the lead in the bottom half of the inning, and McGee became the pitcher of record. He added the first two outs of the eighth for the clean inning of work. The 34-year-old reliever has allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out 10 over 6.1 innings in seven appearances this season. McGee's early success could earn him more time in the later innings in the future.

McGee will be part of the Dodgers' Opening Day roster, Michael J. Duarte of NBC LA reports.
EDGE Analysis
The past week has been a whirlwind for McGee, who was released by Colorado on July 17 and signed by the Dodgers four days later. McGee reportedly drove 17 hours from Denver to Los Angeles before getting into Tuesday's exhibition contest against the Angels, allowing two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning. The veteran reliever has saved as many as 19 games in a season as a major-leaguer but will likely begin the campaign in a low-leverage role with the Dodgers.

McGee signed a major-league contract with the Dodgers on Tuesday, Eric Stephen of TrueBlueLA.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
McGee was recently released by the Rockies, who will still be paying the majority of his $9.5 million contract. He'll be an interesting reclamation project for the Dodgers' coaching staff, as he produced some excellent seasons early in his career but has posted ERAs of 6.49 and 4.35 (along with FIPs of 4.91 and 6.00) over the last two seasons. Whether the 33-year-old lefty can recapture some of his old form remains to be seen.

McGee was released by the Rockies on Friday, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rockies will still be paying McGee $9.5 million this season but won't receive anything in exchange. The 10-year veteran owns a 3.64 lifetime ERA, though his mediocre 4.35 ERA last season came with a poor 6.00 FIP, making him a rather unappealing option on the free agent market.

McGee is likely to be affected by the new three-batter minimum after allowing a .326/.390/.663 slash line to right-handed hitters in 2019, PurpleRow.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
McGee wasn't exclusively utilized as a left-handed specialist last year and the new rule likely will keep in that way, but his struggles against righties figure to present issues for manager Bud Black. The veteran southpaw is under contract for $9.5 million in 2020 and has a $9 million vesting option for 2021, and he'll likely a strong spring training to have a chance of seeing any high-leverage work early on.

McGee took the loss in relief Tuesday against the Astros after giving up a two-run home run in his lone inning of work.
EDGE Analysis
McGee entered the contest in the seventh inning with no outs and the tying run on second base and was unable to preserve the Rockies' narrow lead. After getting Michael Brantley to ground out, the lefty served up the go-ahead blast to Yuli Gurriel, which ultimately held up as the difference. Even after the disappointing showing, McGee still maintains a 1.89 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 19 innings, which should keep him firmly in the Rockies' late-inning mix.
