McCarthy started in right field and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
McCarthy walked, stole second and came around to score on a Nick Ahmed single during Arizona's six-run third inning. It was a the second consecutive start for the lefty-hitting outfielder, who was part of Tuesday's near no-hitter by San Diego lefty Blake Snell. The steal was the first for McCarthy, who had double-digit steals over three full minor-league seasons, including a career-high 29 in 2021. He's started four of the six games since being called up from Triple-A Reno and will be in the outfield mix through the end of the season. That could become an everyday job for McCarthy if the Diamondbacks move Pavin Smith to first base full time in place of the 30-year-old Christian Walker (.673 OPS).

McCarthy started in center field and went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
McCarthy was called up from Triple-A Reno on Friday and made his MLB debut that night, filling in for the injured Ketel Marte (hip) in center. Marte's injury might normally clear a path to at-bats for Daulton Varsho, a catcher/outfield prospect, but he was behind the plate Friday while Carson Kelly got a breather. Seeing that Marte entered the game as a pinch hitter and played four innings at second base, he should be back in the center field mix, although the Diamondbacks may want him playing a less stressful position in the infield. McCarthy had a combined .832 OPS with 15 home runs and 29 steals at Double-A Amarillo and Reno.

McCarthy was called up from Triple-A Reno prior to Friday's game against the Phillies, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
A second-round selection in 2018, McCarthy has made steady progress through the Arizona organization and is now in line to make his major-league debut. The outfielder clubbed nine homers while hitting .262/.330/.508 across 212 plate appearances with Reno, and it wouldn't be surprising if he's given an extended look during the final weeks of the big-league season.

McCarthy will open the year with High-A Visalia, Mike Rosenbaum of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
As an advanced college hitter, McCarthy should handle this assignment just fine, but it's worth pointing out that the Diamondbacks jumped him over Low-A completely. He has a chance to develop into a leadoff hitter with plus speed and double-digit homer pop.
