Bloss (elbow) will undergo UCL surgery on his right elbow, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bloss left his May 3 start with an elbow injury and now he'll need an unspecified procedure to repair his UCL. He impressed in the spring but struggled to a 6.46 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 24:13 K:BB in 23.2 innings across six appearances at Triple-A. Bloss could return in the middle or second half of next season, depending on the exact procedure he gets.

Bloss got imaging on his right elbow Tuesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bloss left in the fourth inning of his last Triple-A start Saturday after experiencing discomfort in his throwing elbow. He's undergone tests to determine the severity of the injury, but the 23-year-old right-hander could be facing a stint on the 7-day injured list.

The Blue Jays optioned Bloss to Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Bloss allowed eight earned runs across 8.0 innings in four appearances during spring training. His best outing came in his most recent outing March 10, when he pitched three scoreless innings. It was thought the 23-year-old had a chance at cracking the rotation to begin the season depending on the availability of Max Scherzer (thumb), but Bloss will have to wait a little longer.

Bloss could be an option as the Blue Jays' No. 5 starter if Max Scherzer (thumb) isn't ready for the start of the season, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Yariel Rodriguez is the more likely candidate to fill in, but he's struggled this spring, serving up four homers and walking six batters over 9.2 innings with 11 strikeouts. Bloss' numbers aren't any better -- he's got a 6:6 K:BB and has been taken deep three times in eight Grapefruit League innings -- but per Matheson, he has looked sharper in his recent outings. Eric Lauer would be another candidate for a spot start or two early in the season if Scherzer's season debut is delayed. The Jays won't need a fifth starter until March 31.

Bloss could be brought up from Triple-A Buffalo in September if the Blue Jays elect to go with a six-man rotation for the final month of the season, Kaitlyn McGrath of the Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Acquired in the Yusei Kikuchi trade with Houston, Bloss has made three starts for Buffalo in August, tossing 9.2 scoreless innings with an 8:5 K:BB. The 23-year-old right-hander is in his first full professional season after being a third-round pick of the Astros in 2023, so Toronto is keeping an eye on his workload, but he's only thrown 75.2 innings so far across four levels -- he started the year at High-A Asheville. A regular turn in September could set Bloss up for a full-time spot in the Jays' rotation in 2025.

Bloss has joined Triple-A Buffalo and is slated to start Saturday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bloss was acquired from the Astros at the trade deadline as a part of the return package for left-hander Yusei Kikuchi and will now make his first start with Triple-A Buffalo. The 23-year-old made three starts with Houston, giving up nine runs over 11.2 innings while striking out 11 batters. General manager Ross Atkins said following the deadline last week that Bloss will get some run at Triple-A before joining the major-league rotation later this season.

General manager Ross Atkins indicated Tuesday that Bloss will get some "breathing room" at Triple-A Buffalo before being called up and added to the Blue Jays' rotation, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports. "Our ideal outcome is that he's helping us this year and growing and developing here in Toronto," Atkins said. "We're going to get to know him, make sure that he's in the strongest possible spot."
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was part of the package the Jays received from Houston in the Yusei Kikuchi deal, but Bloss will begin his Toronto tenure in the minors to help him get settled. Assuming he sees game action for Buffalo, the Bisons will be the fifth different affiliate the 23-year-old has pitched for this season -- he began the year with High-A Asheville before stints at Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Sugarland, eventually making his big-league debut with the Astros on June 21. Bloss posted an impressive 1.64 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 63:21 K:BB in 66 innings across his three minor-league stops, but he got tagged for five homers in 11.2 frames for the Astros before the trade.

The Blue Jays optioned Bloss to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bloss was a member of Houston's rotation and had been slated to start Monday before he was dealt to Toronto in the deal that sent Yusei Kikuchi to the Astros, but the Blue Jays will opt to ease him into the organization at the Triple-A level. Bloss is a 23-year-old righty with a deep arsenal and good control. He tossed four scoreless frames with three strikeouts and zero walks in his lone Triple-A start as a member of the Astros.

The Blue Jays acquired Bloss from the Astros on Monday as part of their return for left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bloss was scheduled to start for the Astros on Monday against the Pirates, but he was a late scratch due to his inclusion in the trade. He last pitched Tuesday, so he could slot into the Toronto rotation for its series this week in Baltimore. One of the Astros' top pitching prospects, Bloss had a 1.48 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 48.2 innings across his last nine minor-league starts, primarily at Double-A. He doesn't have dominant stuff, but Bloss has a deep pitch mix and throws strikes (5.5 percent walk rate in the majors).

Bloss was scratched from his scheduled start Monday against the Pirates, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
EDGE Analysis
Bloss has made two starts for the Astros since being activated from the injured list July 11, covering eight innings while allowing seven earned runs on 10 hits and two walks. The Astros haven't provided an explanation for why Bloss was scratched from the start, and he may still be available out of the bullpen if Houston elects to have a reliever serve as its opening pitcher for the game.
