Turner was officially acquired by the Cubs on Friday. Turner was claimed by the Cubs on Thursday and now the teams have officially reached an agreement to trade him in exchange for two minor league players in Jose Arias and Tyler Bremer. The team also designated Ryan Kalish for assignment to make room for Turner on the 40-man roster. The 23-year-old hurler could end up either in the Cubs' rotation or could pitch out of the bullpen.

Turner was claimed off waivers by the Cubs on Wednesday, Jim Bowden of ESPN reports. Turner will either join the rotation for the Cubs or be the long reliever out of the bullpen. He posted a 5.97 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 78.1 innings with the Marlins this year, but the Cubs will look to get more out of the 23-year-old starter.

Turner was designated for assignment Tuesday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. Turner lost his spot in the rotation when the Marlins acquired Jarred Cosart at the deadline but quickly gained it back when Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) hit the DL. However, he had a disastrous outing Sunday, allowing five runs on nine hits in just four innings. The loss dropped him to 4-7 on the season and raised his ERA to 5.97. With Turner off the 40-man, southpaw Brian Flynn was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.

Turner lasted only four innings Sunday against the Reds, giving up five runs on nine hits and two walks, striking out two. He also allowed three stolen bases, none of which were especially close.

He had been working out of the bullpen, but his struggles followed him there. He carries an ugly 6.03 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and 48/19 K/BB ratio. Turner will take on the Astros in Houston when he takes the mound next.
