The Cubs currently rank second in the National League in runs scored.

Nova (2-4) took the loss against the Padres on Friday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits over six innings while striking out four.

EDGE Analysis

The right-hander recorded his first quality start in May and fourth of the season, but Nova's winless streak extended to six starts as the Pirates failed to provide him with much support. His 4.79 ERA on the season seems shaky, but Nova's 43:8 K:BB through 56.1 innings paints a better picture of his performance to date.

Nova (2-3) allowed four runs on eight hits across 5.2 innings while taking the loss Sunday against the Giants. He did not issue a walk and struck out two.

Nova, who cruised through the first five innings, ran into trouble in the sixth, when he allowed a leadoff home run and three additional base hits. The biggest play of the inning came after his removal, as Brett Hundley launched a three-run home run off the bullpen to tack two more runs onto Nova's ledger. It hasn't been pretty of late for the right-hander, who's allowed 14 earned runs over 12.1 innings over his last three starts. He'll look to right the ship Friday against the Padres.

Nova did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's win, pitching just two innings with two strikeouts while allowing five runs on six hits and two walks against the White Sox.

EDGE Analysis

Despite lining up against the second-lowest scoring team in the AL, Nova was roughed up in this one. He gave up three extra-base hits -- including his seventh home run of the season -- and needed 77 pitches just to get through the two frames. That's now back-to-back outings for Nova in which he's failed to make it through five innings while allowing five earned runs, pushing him up to a 4.84 ERA. The 31-year-old will try to get back on track Sunday against the Giants.

Nova, who struggled against Washington in his last start, will face the White Sox on Tuesday for the first time since 2016, when he pitched for the Yankees.

EDGE Analysis

The righty has strong career numbers against Chicago, including a 2.42 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 44.2 innings. Not surprisingly, Nova's earned-run average is nearly one run better at home (3.38 ERA) than on the road (4.30 ERA). Aside from his poor road start against the Nats on Wednesday, however, he's posted a 3.28 ERA in 24.2 innings away from PNC Park.
