Ian Stewart (wrist) was given a cortisone shot Monday. Stewart also visited with joint specialists at the Cleveland Clinic, though they merely confirmed the diagnosis given earlier this month by Cubs team physicians. The 27-year-old third baseman could need a surgical procedure if his left wrist discomfort does not go away on its own.

Ian Stewart will see a hand specialist at the Cleveland Clinic on Monday for an examination of his left wrist. Stewart has been dealing with wrist issues for more than a year now, and it has surely affected his power and overall performance. He is hitting just .201 with five homers and 17 RBI through 179 at-bats this season.

Ian Stewart has not ruled out exploratory surgery on his ailing left wrist. Stewart has had problems with the wrist for over a year, and it's surely been a factor in his struggles. A battery of tests last year revealed no structural damage, but he'll see a specialist Monday to get a second opinion. ''With all the MRI and X-ray results, nothing of major value came up in there where they said, 'We've got to get this done now,' or it would have been taken care of a long time ago,'' he said. ''But there have been instances where things didn't show up on those, and they can go in [surgically] and look and see if there are other things. I don't know if we'll go that route, but that's definitely a possibility.''

Ian Stewart is scheduled to visit a wrist specialist. The Cubs are worried that Stewart may have nerve damage. He was placed on the disabled list Wednesday evening with a wrist issue that he's dealt with since last year. There's obviously no timetable for his return.

Ian Stewart was scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to soreness in his left wrist. It's the same issue that he's dealt with since last season. Stewart plans to continue to play through the ailment but will require periodic rest. Joe Mather took his place at the hot corner.

Ian Stewart went 2-for-3 in Sunday's loss to the Giants. Both knocks were singles. The Cubs could muster just four hits, none of which went for extra bases, as Barry Zito and Sergio Romo combined on a shutout. Stewart's ninth multi-hit game of the season leaves him with an abysmal .204/.292/.349 slash through Chicago's first 53 games. Getting benched more frequently of late, his NL-only league value is on the wane.

Ian Stewart is back in the lineup Monday after missing Sunday's game with the flu. Stewart was able to get a big pinch-hit Sunday. "He's good enough," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said of his third baseman. "He's probably not 100 percent, but he's good enough to go out there for now. I told him not to do a whole lot today [pregame] to exert himself to get dizzy again."

Despite his early season struggles, Cubs manager Dale Sveum stated Friday that Ian Stewart remains his everyday third baseman. Sveum love Stewart's defense at third base, stating that "There ain't too many third baseman that play third base like he does." From a fantasy perspective, he's been a large disappointment to this point only hitting .175 with one homer and six RBI. It appears for the time being however, that he'll continue to see everyday at-bats and be given every opportunity to work out of his current funk.
