Ian Kennedy (oblique) is expected to return to the Padres' rotation on Saturday versus the Braves. Kennedy was scratched from his scheduled turn Monday due to soreness in his left oblique, but it's not a major concern. He is expected to throw a side session on Wednesday. Jason Lane will start in his place Monday afternoon at Turner Field in Atlanta.

Ian Kennedy will not make his scheduled start on Monday versus the Braves due to left oblique soreness. Kennedy is not expected to require a disabled list stint, but he'll have one turn skipped. It's poor timing, of course, given that the Padres are considering trading the right-hander before the deadline. The Pads haven't announced who will replace Kennedy on Monday.

Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that the Yankees "are not being aggressive" in their pursuit of Ian Kennedy. It essentially backs up what CBS Sports' Jon Heyman said, as Heyman noted Thursday night that while the Yanks like Kennedy, they're not prepared to give up both third base prospect Eric Jagielo and pitching prospect Ian Clarkin for him. That was the proposed package that ESPN's Jim Bowden reported, but it would be a steep price given that they were the Yankees' two first-round picks last season. San Diego is listening on Kennedy, but he's under control next season so they don't feel obligated to move him now.

ESPN's Jim Bowden reports that the Yankees and Padres are discussing a trade that would send Ian Kennedy to New York in exchange for third base prospect Eric Jagielo and pitching prospect Ian Clarkin. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman says that the Yankees are indeed interested in Kennedy but not if it means giving up both Jagielo and Clarkin. It would be Kennedy's second stint in New York if the trade did go through, as he was drafted by the Yanks and spent his first three big league seasons there. Needless to say, it would be just about the worse-case scenario for his fantasy value going from Petco Park to Yankee Stadium. Kennedy is making $6.1 million this season and is eligible for arbitration for a final time this winter.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Padres "have sent word to some teams that they would need to be overwhelmed to trade" starting pitcher Ian Kennedy. This could be a negotiating ploy on the part of the Padres, or it might just be serious. Kennedy is under contractual control (via arbitration) through the 2015 season, so the San Diego front office can slow-play this and wait for the best offer -- even if it doesn't come until this winter or next summer. The 29-year-old right-hander owns an impressive 3.66 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 143/42 K/BB ratio in 135 1/3 innings (22 starts) this season.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Pirates and Royals each had scouts on hand to watch Padres right-hander Ian Kennedy on Friday. The Pirates are in the market for rotation and bullpen help, while Rosenthal notes that the Royals are simply keeping all of their options open. With the Huston Street trade completed on Friday, expect the Padres to be very active in the coming days as they deal several other veterans who don't fit into the team's long-term vision.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Padres and Angels "do not match up" for Ian Kennedy. Rosenthal notes that the two clubs are still talking about a possible deal involving Huston Street. Kennedy figures to be one of the better pitchers moved this month, but the Angels have a barren farm system and don't want to trade major league pieces in order to get something done.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Angels are targeting Padres starter Ian Kennedy. Anaheim has also been in talks with the still-under-construction San Diego front office about closer Huston Street. Kennedy, 29, has registered an exceptional 3.47 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 133/34 K/BB ratio across 124 1/3 innings (20 starts) this season for the Padres. According to the pitching metric xFIP, he ranks better this year than guys like Max Scherzer, Adam Wainwright, and Jeff Samardzija. Kennedy is arbitration-eligible through 2015, so the Friars will probably want a fairly substantial return package.

Ian Kennedy went unrewarded after blanking the Dodgers for eight innings on Saturday. Kennedy has nine starts this season in which he's allowed one or no runs, but he has just seven wins total (six coming in those games, plus one more in which the Padres offense flexed its muscles in a 3-2 victory). The Padres have scored a total of 15 runs in his nine losses.

Ian Kennedy allowed one run over seven innings and struck out nine to beat the Rockies in Coors Field on Monday night. After a bumpy June, Kennedy has opened July 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in two starts. Overall, he's struck out 125 batters in 116 1/3 innings this season. He should bring a nice return if the Padres opt to move him this month.
