The Blue Jays announced that Ryu was removed from his start Sunday against the Rays due to a minor right glute strain.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu was sharp (five strikeouts in 3.2 scoreless innings) before the injury ended his day early. Since he departed with the game knotted at 0-0, Ryu won't factor into any decision, but he at least looks in good shape to avoid missing additional time due to the injury. Assuming Ryu is able to complete a between-starts bullpen session in the next couple of days without issue, he'll likely be cleared to make a start during next weekend's three-game series versus Atlanta.

Ryu was removed in the bottom of the fourth inning of Sunday's game against the Rays due to an apparent injury, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.
EDGE Analysis
After a trainer visited him on the mound, Ryu checked out of the game, but an explanation behind his removal likely won't come until later Sunday. Ryu had struck out five over 3.2 scoreless innings while giving up three hits and a walk before departing.

Ryu (1-2) allowed four earned runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out two across five innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu had little trouble getting through three scoreless innings to begin the outing. However, he ran into trouble in the fourth frame, allowing singles to the first two batters he faced followed by a three-run homer to Xander Bogaerts. Entering the contest, Ryu had allowed only four earned runs across his first 19 innings of the season to go along with a 19:2 K:BB. This performance should just be a small setback, and Ryu will look to bounce back in his next start, currently projected to come Sunday at Tampa Bay.

Ryu (1-1) earned the win Tuesday after holding the Yankees to one run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven across 6.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu had no problem locking down his first win of the season, blanking the Yankees threw the first six innings before a throwing error by Cavan Biggio in the seventh caused a run to score on an RBI double by Aaron Hicks. Despite the hiccup, Ryu was in top form following five days of rest, facing the minimum batters through the first five frames and sending all three batters down on strikes in the second. The southpaw will look to defend a shiny 1.89 ERA and 0.89 WHIP during his next start Sunday at Kansas City.

Ryu (0-1) allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out seven over seven innings in a loss to the Rangers on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu didn't pitch poorly, but the Blue Jays' offense couldn't get anything done against Rangers starter Kyle Gibson. The 34-year-old Ryu has pitched to a 2.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 12:1 K:BB across his first 12.1 innings of the season. The southpaw is probably a bit unlucky not to have a win yet. He'll look to change that Monday in a home start versus the Yankees.

Ryu allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five over 5.1 innings in Thursday's loss to the Yankees. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu was able to limit baserunners throughout most of this season-opening start, but the two-run homer he surrendered to Gary Sanchez in the bottom of the second inning forced the southpaw to settle for a no-decision. Ryu lines up to make his second start of the season on the road Wednesday against the Rangers.

Ryu has been named the Blue Jays' Opening Day starter, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ryu posted a 3.60 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 10 innings across three Grapefruit League starts this spring, and manager Charlie Montoyo confirmed Friday that the southpaw will take the mound against the Yankees on April 1. Ryu made 12 starts for the Blue Jays last year and recorded a 2.69 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 72:17 K:BB in 67 innings.

Ryu faced hitters in an intrasquad game Wednesday at the Blue Jays' spring training facility, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though he has yet to make his Grapefruit League debut, Ryu remains on schedule with his build-up program for the regular season. As is the case for many veteran starters around the league, Ryu is simply getting his arm conditioned on the back fields at the spring facility, giving the Jays' lesser established pitchers the chance to showcase their skills in the Grapefruit League. Toronto has yet to name an Opening Day starter, but Ryu is the leading candidate to get the ball April 1 against the Yankees after compiling a 2.69 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 67 innings in his inaugural season in Toronto.

Ryu was charged with seven runs (three earned) on eight hits over 1.2 innings in a loss to the Rays on Wednesday in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series. He struck out three batters and issued one walk.
EDGE Analysis
This one was over early as the Rays put up seven runs in the first two innings, with the big blow (a Hunter Dozier grand slam) coming right after a fielding error by Bo Bichette. It's a disappointing way to end the season for Ryu, but the lefty had another outstanding campaign in his first year with Toronto -- his third straight regular season with a sub-3.00 ERA. His strikeout rate was up nearly four percentage points from 2019.

Ryu (5-2) picked up the win Thursday, allowing five hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings in a 4-1 victory over the Yankees. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran lefty more than earned his big offseason payday as he came through with another dazzling effort to clinch a playoff berth for the Blue Jays. Ryu heads into the postseason with a 2.69 ERA and 72:17 K:BB through 67 innings.
