Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Yankees are "60-40" to become more aggressive in adding to the roster before spring training.
Marchand says they could add a starting pitcher via trade or free agency. As far as free agents go, he thinks Hiroki Kuroda is a more likely target than Edwin Jackson, saying agent Scott Boras "needs to come down further" to get Jackson in play. The Yankees would prefer to hand out a one-year deal, which would match up for Kuroda, who only wants one year. Roy Oswalt is also still in the mix, but Marchand says he's "more unlikely, but can't be completely ruled out."

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that free agent starter Hiroki Kuroda's asking price has dropped to $10-11 million.
Kuroda made $12 million last season and was said to be looking for $12-13 million to stay in the states in 2012. It appears he's starting to come down a bit, though. The Red Sox, Yankees and Rangers have all expressed degrees of interest in the free agent, and, even though he'll turn 37 in February, he'd make a fine investment on a one-year deal. Kuroda held a 3.07 ERA and 161/49 K/BB ratio in 202 innings this past season.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox remain in talks with Hiroki Kuroda's agent.
Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM wrote earlier this week that the Red Sox and Kuroda appeared to be "closing in" on a short-term deal. While that report was quickly refuted by various beat writers, the two sides have obviously kept in touch. Kuroda, who turns 37 in February, recently informed the Hiroshima Carp that he intends to pitch in MLB next season. The Yankees and Rangers are among the other clubs who have reportedly expressed interest.

Hiroki Kuroda has informed the Hiroshima Carp that he is planning to remain in the major leagues.
The report comes from the Jiji Press, via Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker. There has been some talk that Kuroda might return to his native Japan if his contract demands are not met here in that states, but that can now be put to rest. Kuroda is expected to decide on a team for 2012 within the next couple of days. The Red Sox, Rangers and Yankees are said to have interest.

The Japanese website Sponichi reports that the Rangers are interested in free agent right-hander Hiroki Kuroda.
The report was translated and passed along by Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker. It must be taken with a grain of salt, as Japanese news services don't have a great history of accurate reporting on MLB matters. The Rangers already have lots of pitching depth and will get more if, as expected, they come to terms with Yu Darvish. Kuroda, who is looking for a $12-13 million deal, could be viewed as a backup plan should talks with Darvish's representatives stall.

Ken Davidoff of Newsday reports that, out of Hiroki Kuroda, Edwin Jackson and Roy Oswalt, Kuroda is the likeliest to join the Yankees "at this juncture."
Davidoff says signing Kuroda to a one-year deal "appeals" to the Yanks, but they want him to lower his demands from $13 million to "something like $8 million or $9 million." Kuroda earned $12 million last season while posting a 3.07 ERA and 161/49 K/BB ratio in 202 innings. It's reasonable for him to ask for a raise, and if he doesn't get it, he might just go back to Japan. The Red Sox have also expressed interest in the right-hander.

Jon Heyman of CBSports.com reports that Hiroki Kuroda is seeking a salary in the range of $13-14 million.
Heyman also hears that some teams believe he could return to Japan to pitch for the Hiroshima Carp. Kuroda, who turns 37 in February, earned a $12 million salary last season while posting a 3.07 ERA and 161/49 K/BB ratio in 202 innings. The Red Sox are among the teams who have expressed interest.

Hiroki Kuroda's asking price "remains high," according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.
As in, too high for the teams that are currently interested in signing in him. Kuroda, 36, posted a 3.07 ERA and 161/49 K/BB ratio in 202 innings last season for the Dodgers. He's thought to be searching for a contract worth around $12-$13 million annually. The Red Sox have expressed serious interest, but want to avoid going too far over the luxury tax threshold to sign him.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Red Sox are now looking to acquire a starting pitcher.
The Red Sox acquired closer Andrew Bailey from the Athletics on Wednesday, so picking up a starter is the next item on their agenda. Heyman names Hiroki Kuroda, Roy Oswalt, Joe Saunders and Edwin Jackson as possibilities among the remaining free agent starters and the Cubs' Matt Garza as a potential trade target.
