Bird will undergo surgery Tuesday to remove a small broken spur on the outside of his right ankle. He is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks as a result.
EDGE Analysis
This is a tough break for Bird and the Yankees with Opening Day right around the corner. The first baseman exited the Yankees' Grapefruit League contest over the weekend with a sore right foot, and while initial tests simply revealed inflammation, a follow-up appointment with a foot specialist confirmed he would require surgery. If Bird progresses on schedule, he could rejoin the big club sometime in mid-to-late May. It should be noted, however, that he missed a significant portion of the 2017 season with a similar ankle injury, so the Yankees will likely proceed extra cautiously with the 25-year-old. In the meantime, Neil Walker, Austin Romine or potentially Tyler Austin are all possibilities to fill in at first base until Bird is healthy.

An MRI on Bird's right foot Saturday revealed inflammation.
EDGE Analysis
Bird exited Saturday's spring game with a sore right foot and was subsequently taken for an X-ray and CT scan. While his initial test results only revealed inflammation, Bird is scheduled to see a foot specialist Monday to make sure he isn't dealing with anything more problematic. This will certainly be a situation to monitor seeing as the 25-year-old was sidelined for much of 2017 with an ankle injury, and Erik Boland of Newsday reports his current issue is in the same area. Boland also noted that general manager Brian Cashman seemed concerned about the issue, stating, "I'm worries about it, to be honest." Expect an update on Bird's status following his examination Monday.

Bird will undergo an MRI on his sore right foot Saturday, Marc Carig of The Athletic New York reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bird was removed from Saturday's spring game in the first inning prior to his at-bat after experiencing discomfort in his foot. The severity of the issue remains unclear at this point, but more will hopefully be known once his test results are disclosed. This will be a situation to monitor with Opening Day rapidly approaching, especially given an ankle issue kept Bird sidelined for much of the 2017 season.

Bird was scratched from Saturday's game due to a sore right foot, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bird was removed from Saturday's game in the first inning prior to his at-bat. He will be evaluated by a doctor Saturday afternoon to determine the severity of this injury. Consider him day-to-day for the time being. In the event that Bird misses some time, Neil Walker or Austin Romine will likely fill in at first base.

Bird was a late scratch from Saturday's lineup, Brendan Kuty of NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
At this point, there has been no reason given for Bird's removal but the first baseman was replaced in the first inning by pinch hitter Ryan McBroom. Expect an update on his status in the coming hours.

Bird has gotten off to a 4-for-27 (.148 average) start at the dish and has struck out in one third of his plate appearances during Grapefruit League action.
EDGE Analysis
It amounts to a 180 from Bird's performance last spring, when he skyrocketed up draft boards after slugging eight home runs and posting a 1.654 OPS across 23 games. Bird proved to be a poor investment once the regular season began, however, struggling to a .190/.288/.422 mark over 170 plate appearances on the campaign while missing multiple months with an ankle injury. Though he's unlikely to come at a significant discount in light of his recent struggles, Bird at least represents a better buying opportunity this year now that some of the hype has faded following an ugly 2017 campaign. Bird still possesses uncommon power from the left side and owns a high, but not crippling 27.3 percent strikeout rate for his career, suggesting his poor spring shouldn't be taken as a harbinger of what's to come.

Bird is seen as an "impact middle of the order hitter" by manager Aaron Boone, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bird hit just .190/.288/.422 in 48 games for the Yankees last year, in a season where he battled injuries and a very unlucky .194 BABIP. Boone expects Bird to hit in the heart of the order when healthy, which could boost his run and RBI totals. As a left-handed hitter, Bird could find himself hitter somewhere in the middle of the Yankees big right-handed bats, Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, and Gary Sanchez. We'll likely get a better sense of Boone's plans once the Grapefruit League begins.

Bird is out of the lineup for Sunday's matchup against Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
Bird has started four consecutive games and managed to collect at least one hit in each outing. However the Yankees are facing the left-handed Brett Anderson on Sunday, so Chase Headley will start at first base in his place.

Bird is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Yankees will deploy a right-handed heavy lineup with lefty Blake Snell toeing the rubber for the opposition, so Bird will head to the bench despite going 1-for-4 with a two-run homer Monday. In his place, Chase Headley will start at first base and bat fifth.

Bird went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer Saturday against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Bird smashed his sixth homer of the season to give the Yankees a fifth-inning lead they'd never relinquish. Unfortunately, this was his only homer of the month, and across the board, his numbers haven't provided much use to fantasy managers.
