Richards was solid in a no-decision on Saturday, as he struck out nine batters across seven innings while allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks against the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Richards was stopped in the middle of an at-bat in the third for a rain delay and it bit him back, as he allowed the two inherited runners to score in his return. That was really his only blemish in the game and it's just been that sort of season for Richards. He'll look to build off this performance when he squares off against Texas next Friday.

Richards struck out six and walked one while holding the Rangers to one run on six hits over 7.2 innings Friday night.
Since failing to get out of the first inning in his start against the Yankees on June 6, Richards has gone at least six innings in each of his last five outings. During that span, he's allowed just eight earned runs in 35.1 innings, lowering his season ERA from 4.14 to 3.35 in the process. Richards will make his final start of the first half in Seattle on Thursday.

Richards (8-5) was sharp Saturday, striking out six while holding the Mariners to two runs on seven hits and a walk over 7.2 innings in a 4-2 victory.
Richards threw a couple wild pitches -- including one that allowed a run to score -- but was still about as effective as we've seen him this year. He's struggled with an increase in walks and a reduced strikeout rate this season, but perhaps Saturday's outing is a sign that Richards has turned the corner for good. We'll see if he can keep it up when he starts against the Rangers on Friday.

Richards allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking two over six innings in a loss to the A's on Sunday.
Richards was high on draft boards coming into 2015 for his ability to strike out hitters, but he has now fanned just seven batters in his last thirteen innings, while walking five over that span. The 27-year-old has lost a bit more than one mile per hour off his fastball since last season, which is a bit concerning, as the uptick in strikeouts in 2014 coincided with a velocity increase. He is still keeping the ball on the ground (54.3 GB%) and averages 95.2 mph on his heater, but the rough start is likely a bit concerning for those who were looking for last year's production. Richards will take a 3.66 ERA into a start against the Mariners on Friday.

Richards bounced back from his worst game of the season in his previous outing, when he allowed six runs in 0.2 innings against the Yankees. Richards had a meltdown on the mound Saturday, lasting just two-thirds of an inning while allowing six runs on five hits against the Yankees.
Richards said he felt fine before entering the game Saturday, so owners likely don't have to worry about a possible injury, but the 27-year-old has not shown the dominant form he displayed in 2014 so far this season, as his strikeout rate has declined, his walk rate has increased, and he has now allowed a home run in each of his last four starts after letting just five balls leave the yard all of last season. Because Richards spent the first month of the season on the disabled list while recovering from knee surgery, it's hard to tell if he is experiencing regression or rust, but it was after a similar start against the Oakland A's last year that Richards began carving up the league, which may provide hope that he will be able to right the ship. He will take a 4.14 ERA into a game against the Rays on Thursday.

Richards struck out four and walked three while giving up three runs on six hits over six innings in a winning effort against the Rays on Monday night.
While Richards has not been as sharp as he was last season when he pitched to a 2.61 ERA and 1.04 WHIP, he's getting deep into his starts on a regular basis as he's logged at least six innings in all but one start since returning from a knee injury April 19. He's also getting a steady supply of outs on the ground, which has limited the damage of his higher walk rate, and lower strikeout rate to this point. Richards will face the Yankees on the road Sunday in his next scheduled start.
