Everth Cabrera (hamstring) took ground balls, hit and ran in the outfield before Wednesday's game. Padres manager Bud Black estimated that Cabrera was at about 75 percent intensity level during the workout. It's not clear what the next step is for the shortstop, but the team remains hopeful that Cabrera can be activated next Tuesday when first eligible.

The Padres are hopeful that Everth Cabrera (hamstring) can be activated from the disabled list on July 2, the first day he's eligible. Cabrera has been taking batting practice with no issues and this weekend is expected to start running the bases and fielding. The Padres haven't decided whether he'll need a rehab assignment before returning. "He's doing much better," manager Bud Black said. "He's going to travel with us out east and get on the field, doing running, fielding. We'll see what happens Friday and Saturday and go from there."

Padres placed SS Everth Cabrera on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 17, with a mild left hamstring strain. Cabrera suffered the injury trying to steal second base on Sunday. He'll be eligible to return around the start of July and there's a chance he'll be ready by then. Alexi Amarista and Pedro Ciriaco should see playing time at shortstop when he's sidelined.

Everth Cabrera (hamstring) is expected to be placed on the disabled list Wednesday. Cabrera injured his left hamstring during Sunday's game and will now receive some extended rest. It's too bad, as the 26-year-old is in the midst of a breakout season. Alexi Amarista and Pedro Ciriaco figures to split playing time at shortstop during his absence.

Everth Cabrera is dealing with a left hamstring injury. Cabrera suffered the injury in the eighth inning of Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks. The Union-Tribune San Diego suggests that both Cabrera and Carlos Quentin (shoulder) are candidates to be placed on the disabled list.

Everth Cabrera stole two bases on Saturday evening as the Padres beat the Rockies 4-2. Cabrera is now 72-for-82 in stolen base attempts since the start of the 2012 season and he's batting .300 with a .377 on-base percentage in 62 games this year. The batting average and OBP are likely to tumble, but the Padres' shortstop remains one of the best speed options on the fantasy scene. He already has 28 steals in 2013.

Everth Cabrera went 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, a steal, four RBI and two runs scored as the Padres topped the Diamondbacks 10-4 Saturday. The 26-year-old shortstop is having a breakout fantasy season, batting .267/.349/.398 with four homers in 48 games. He leads the NL in steals with 19 and has scored 28 times. The NL stolen base king last season needs to be starting in all formats.

Everth Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI in Saturday's win against the Nationals. Cabrera has now stolen a base in four consecutive games, bumping him to the National League leader with 15. The shortstop will never post a good batting average, but he's getting on base more and running as effectively as ever. The 26-year-old shortstop batted .246/.324/.324 with a league-leading 44 stolen bases last season and is a decent bet to improve upon all numbers in 2013.
