Edwin Jackson improved to 4-5, allowing four runs (one earned) in five innings as the Cubs defeated the Mets 5-4 on Wednesday. Jackson settled down after a shaky first inning in which he allowed three unearned runs thanks to shortstop Starlin Castro's fielding error. The right-hander allowed five hits -- including a solo home run to Ruben Tejada -- while walking five and striking out four. Jackson has not been very reliable out of the rotation for the Cubs thus far. He'll take a 4.59 ERA and 1.46 WHIP into his next start against the Pirates on the road.

Edwin Jackson struck out nine while allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings on Wednesday, taking the loss against the Giants. Jackson was clean until the sixth inning, when both his baserunners were allowed to score after he was removed from the game. In all, he gave up just four hits and two walks on the afternoon. Unfortunately for him, the Cubs didn't muster a hit off the Giants until the seventh inning, saddling him with his fifth loss. He'll take a 4.81 ERA and 1.41 WHIP into next Wednesday's contest with the Mets.

Edwin Jackson was pummeled for eight runs in four innings by the Padres in Petco on Friday. This is why it's pretty much impossible to count on Jackson. He was coming off his third straight quality start, a gem in which he fanned 11 Brewers over seven scoreless innings, and then he unleashes this in the most favorable matchup a starting pitcher can have. The two homers he gave up tonight matched his total from his previous nine starts combined. Next up for Jackson is the Giants. He'll almost certainly be really good, really awful or somewhere in between.

Edwin Jackson absolutely dominated the Brewers on Saturday, striking out 11 over seven shutout innings to earn his third victory of the season. Jackson allowed just four hits and one walk in the impressive outing. Every once in awhile he puts it all together and has an outing like this, but is still far too inconsistent to trust in mixed leagues on a regular basis. He'll bring a 3.98 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 49/20 K/BB ratio into Friday's start against the Padres in San Diego.

He also served up a solo home run to Evan Gattis that turned out to be the deciding run, just his second home run allowed in 47 1/3 innings this season. The right-hander owns a 4.56 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through eight starts. He'll next take the hill Friday against the Brewers.

Jackson turned in unquestionably his best start of the season, giving up just six hits while not walking a batter. He left with the score tied 1-1 -- his own offense managed just four hits on the evening -- so he wasn't rewarded with his third win of the year for his efforts. He's got a date with the slumping Braves offense in Atlanta on Sunday.

Jackson struck out five and walked a pair in the victory and gave up both runs in his final inning of work. The veteran right-hander has failed to complete six innings in three out of his four starts this season and simply isn't a reliable fantasy option right now. He'll face one of his many former teams next week when he goes up against the Diamondbacks at home.

Jackson looked sharper after a 45-minute rain delay in the bottom of the third inning, but most of the damage was already done. He walked three total batters and was knocked around for eight total hits on the afternoon. The right-hander now owns a rough 6.19 ERA and 1.88 WHIP in three starts this year.
