Escobar (elbow) was placed on the minor-league disabled list by the Red Sox on Sunday, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
Escobar is expected to take up relief work at Triple-A Pawtucket to open in the season, which the team hopes will prepare him for the bullpen in the majors in the near future. However, concerns about the elbow will derail this plan in the short term. At just 22 years old, the Red Sox surely won't take any chances with the hard-throwing lefty,

Escobar appears to be transitioning to a bullpen role this spring, and he may end up shifting to relief work at Triple-A Pawtucket to begin the season, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
With a mid-90s fastball, Escobar could become a very good late-inning reliever, although at age-22, making that move now eats away at some of the potential long-term value Escobar could offer the club a starter. Nevertheless, he'll push his way into the mix much more quickly as a reliever, as the Red Sox have a slew of young options trying to break through in the rotation.

Escobar was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday, Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com reports.
With Pawtucket losing in the Triple-A National Championship on Tuesday, Escobar will head to Boston to provide an extra arm out of the bullpen over the final week and a half of the regular season. Acquired from the Giants in the Jake Peavy deal earlier this summer, Escobar was exceptional for Pawtucket in his four postseason starts, never allowing more than two runs per outing.

Escobar was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Escobar pitched a scoreless inning Thursday in his major league debut, but was rewarded with a trip back to the minors. It may not be a long one however, as the rosters will expand when the calendar flips to September.

Escobar was called up by the Red Sox on Wednesday, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.
In his second stint with the big club, it remains to be seen if Escobar will make his major league debut. The 22-year-old lefty will likely serve in long relief, after making 25 starts combined between Triple-A affiliates in Fresno and Pawtucket this season.

Escobar was optioned back to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday, the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham reports.
He didn't see any action with the Red Sox after getting call as an emergency reliever for Sunday's game, but his 1.50 ERA in 12 innings as a starter at Triple-A suggests the Red Sox may consider calling him up to use out of the bullpen when rosters expand in September.

Escobar was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Sunday, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
Acquired by the Red Sox from the Giants in the Jake Peavy deal, Escobar will be available in long relief Sunday, after Boston was forced to burn through eight relievers in Saturday's 19-inning defeat. The 22-year-old has worked exclusively as a starter at the Triple-A level this season, going going 3-8 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.47 WHIP.

Red Sox acquired LHP Edwin Escobar and RHP Heath Hembree from the Red Sox for RHP Jake Peavy and cash considerations.
Escobar began the season as the second ranked prospect in the Giants system, but struggled to the tune of a 5.11 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 96/37 K/BB ratio over 111 innings at Triple-A Fresno in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Still just 22-years-old, the hard-throwing southpaw makes for a nice addition to the Red Sox system.

Giants left-handed pitching prospect threw five shutout innings for Triple-A Fresno on Wednesday, scattering three hits and four walks.
Despite Escobar's poor 2014 campaign, his command has been solid, which is what makes this outing surprising. Two of the three hits were doubles, and opposing batters are hitting .288/.346/.480 off him for the season. He has a solid 8.0 K/9 for the season. He projects as a back-end rotation option, and could see time in the major leagues if he is able to put together a few more good outings.
