Ackley is batting .316/.350/.520 in the second half with five home runs and 19 extra-base hits in 38 games. Ackley has cut his strikeout rate to 12.2 percent in the second half after posting an 18.0 mark in the first half. He's shown better plate coverage, reaching outside pitches that he previously missed or watched go for strikes.

Ackley has been scorching at the plate since the beginning of July, quelling any discussion that he'd be removed from his starting job in the outfield. He will, however, receive the day off Wednesday with tough lefty Cole Hamels twirling for the Phillies.

Ackley hit his third home run in the last six games Wednesday and seventh of the season as he continued his recent hot streak. June ended with Ackley batting .214/.273/.329, but in 29 games since, he's batting .346/.364/.523 with 13 extra-base hits. He needs to keep up the solid hitting to ensure his starting spot. The acquisitions of Austin Jackson and Chris Denorfia couple with the imminent return of Michael Saunders from the DL, could squeeze Ackley's playing time, or at least put him in a platoon with Denorfia. Ackley has increased his line-drive rate during his hot streak, but he saw a similar hot run last August when he batted .390.

Dustin Ackley went 3-for-5 with a two-run double as the Mariners defeated the Indians on Tuesday. Ackley drove in the middle two runs in a four-run fourth inning, doubling to right field off of Trevor Bauer. The 26-year-old has been red-hot since returning from the break, as he holds a .444 average (20-for-45) in 11 games since. The Mariners hope it's a sign of things to come, as Ackley's numbers overall aren't too great -- he has a .256/.303/.372 slash line with four home runs and 34 RBI.

Dustin Ackley will bat leadoff Tuesday against the Indians. This is his first start out of the leadoff spot this season. The struggling James Jones has been dropped down to ninth in the order.

Dustin Ackley had a monster game in Monday's 5-2 win over the Mets, going 3-for-4 at the dish and robbing a homer in the field. Ackley's heroics improved Seattle to 53-46, 2 1/2 games up for the second Wild Card slot in the American League. The outfielder had two singles and an RBI double, but his most impressive display came in stealing Travis d'Arnaud's sixth inning would-be-homer. Ackley started heating up right when we started hearing his name in trade rumors; he's batting .360 (18-for-50) in July.
