Leyba signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates on Friday, John Dreker of Pirates Prospects reports.
EDGE Analysis
Leyba, 27, is already in Pirates camp. The utility infielder has some major-league experience but split 2022 between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso in the Padres organization, sporting a .755 OPS with 11 homers and 12 steals over 108 games. He'll likely begin 2023 at Triple-A Indianapolis.

Leyba signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Dec. 14.
EDGE Analysis
Leyba spent time with the Diamondbacks, Orioles and Rangers last year but played at the Triple-A level for most of the season. It wouldn't be surprising to see the 26-year-old serve as a non-roster invitee this spring, but he'll likely serve as organizational depth for most of the 2022 campaign.

EDGE Analysis

The Orioles outrighted Leyba to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Leyba's .115/.198/.161 slash line across 96 plate appearances on the season between the Diamondbacks and Orioles did little to attract interest from other teams around the league when Baltimore exposed him to waivers last week. Though Leyba no longer possesses a spot on the Orioles' 40-man roster, he'll remain in the organization as infield depth at Triple-A.

The Orioles designated Leyba for assignment Wednesday, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Before Leyba was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, the Orioles gave him a look as an everyday player in the middle infield. The 25-year-old switch-hitter didn't impress during his two-and-a-half-month stay in the majors, slashing .115/.198/.161 with a 24 percent strikeout rate over 96 plate appearances. If he goes unclaimed off waivers, Leyba will remain in the organization and continue to play for Norfolk.

Leyba is 0-for-19 over his past eight games and will return to the minors with Richie Martin (wrist) coming back from the injured list. Leyba has appeared in 21 games for Baltimore this season and has a .1154/.236/.215 slash line in 72 plate appearances.

Leyba will start at second base and bat ninth Wednesday against the Marlins, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
He'll be manning the keystone for the third game in a row and appears to have temporarily moved ahead of the struggling Pat Valaika on the depth chart. Leyba has gone 0-for-5 over his previous two starts to drop his season average to .130, so he likely won't have a long leash in an everyday role.
