Overton (personal) was officially placed on the paternity leave list Monday, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Overton awaiting the birth of his child, he'll likely be away from the team for the first three games of the Mariners' season-opening series with the Mariners before joining the team for the finale Thursday. With the lefty unavailable, Chase De Jong was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma and will serve as a long-relief option as needed.

Overton will miss the first few games of the regular season as his wife is due to have a baby on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Overton will likely be placed on the paternity leave list, which allows the Mariners to use another player from the 40-man roster for as few as one or as many as three games. As such, expect Overton to return to the Mariners no later than April 6 against Houston.

Overton is expected to land a spot on the Mariners' Opening Day roster.
EDGE Analysis
According to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times, Overton will likely miss the first few games of the season with his wife expecting to have a baby Tuesday. With that, the Mariners will likely make an official roster move to call up a different pitcher once the season begins. That said, Overton should be in line to return to the big league club after his stint on the paternity list that can last upwards of three games.

Overton (1-1) gave up an earned run on four hits over six innings in Saturday's 3-1 Cactus League win over the Rangers. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Overton produced his second straight strong start and did so against a Rangers lineup that included regulars Juricskon Profar, Shin-Soo Choo, Roughned Odor and Nomar Mazara. Although he's still expected to start the season in Triple-A Tacoma, the 25-year-old southpaw's performance this spring, which includes a 2.65 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 13:0 K:BB over 17 innings across six appearances (two starts), certainly lays the foundation for a potential call-up during the regular season.

Overton will continue to work as a starter and is not considered a candidate to land a spot in the Mariners' bullpen, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
It appears that Overton will slot into the rotation at Triple-A Tacoma once the season gets underway, but the Mariners have yet to make an official move to send him back to minor league camp. Overton has struck out 10 batters over 11.0 innings this spring while notching a 3.27 ERA and a strong 1.09 WHIP.

Overton struck out four and gave up two runs (none earned) on three hits over three innings in Sunday's 3-2 Cactus League loss to the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old lefty gave up a two-run home run on a curveball to Carlos Gomez after Delino DeShields escaped a sure pick-off due to an error by Mike Freeman, but he was otherwise effective through his three frames. Overton has been solid over four spring appearances, generating a 3.27 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 10 strikeouts without any walks over 11 innings. "Whether he makes our team or not, we like him as a starter right now, but maybe down the road we'll see what he brings," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "He's left-handed, a pretty athletic guy and we really like the changeup and stuff, but we'll keep him starting and see how far that goes."

Overton, who arrived in Seattle via a Jan. 26 trade with the A's, was credited with his first hold of spring by firing two innings of scoreless, one-hit ball in Sunday's 13-2 Cactus League victory over the Padres. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old southpaw had a relatively quick ascension through the Oakland organization after 2013 Tommy John surgery, but received a considerably rude welcome to the big leagues in 2016. Overton posted an 11.47 ERA and 2.26 WHIP over 24.2 innings, yet still holds promise based on his solid body of work in the minors. His quest for a role as a lefty specialist out of the Mariners pen certainly got off on the right foot Sunday, and Overton figures to get plenty of additional opportunities to state his case during the exhibition slate.

Overton was traded to the Mariners on Thursday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
In return for Overton, Seattle sent Jason Goldstein to Oakland. Overton's first experience in the show didn't go very well in 2016, as he allowed 31 runs over a grueling 24.1 innings (7 games) and ended the year with a 2.26 WHIP. However, he's had multiple promising seasons in the minors, so it's not out of the question for the 25-year-old to right the ship with his new club.

Overton was designated for assignment Wednesday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The A's reunited with utility infielder Adam Rosales, but they needed a 40-man roster spot in order to make the transaction official. Overton ended up being the casualty after seven shaky appearances at the major league level in 2016. The former second-round pick was somewhat successful at each stop in the minors, although it seems like he'll be buried into an organizational depth role moving forward unless injuries strike the major league roster once more.

Overton was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
One of several mediocre big-league ready starting pitching prospects in Oakland's farm system, Overton struggled mightily in five starts with the big club earlier in the season (26 earned runs in 21.1 innings). He was much more effective at Triple-A, notching a 3.29 ERA and 105:31 K:BB in 125.2 innings, but he may simply lack the stuff to turn over a big league lineup on a consistent basis. Look for him to work as a long man for the A's initially, although he could see a start or two before the end of the season.
