The Mets optioned Peterson to Triple-A Syracuse following Saturday's doubleheader with the Phillies, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Because he was designated as the Mets' 27th man for the twin bill, Peterson will temporarily move off the active roster after he struck out six and allowed three earned runs over 4.2 innings en route to taking the loss in Game 2 of Saturday's twin bill. As Britton notes, Peterson had to be designated as the 27th man in order to rejoin the Mets since he hadn't spent the minimum 15 days in the minors following his Aug. 6 demotion, but he'll still be eligible to be recalled later this week when New York requires a new fifth starter to replace the injured Carlos Carrasco (oblique). Unless the Mets decide to take advantage of Wednesday's off day to get by with a four-man rotation during the upcoming week, Peterson should rejoin the Mets to make a start next weekend against the Rockies at Citi Field.

Peterson (6-3) allowed three earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six across 4.2 innings to take the loss in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Peterson was called up from Triple-A Syracuse prior to the start, and he should stick in the rotation thanks to the absence of Carlos Carrasco (oblique). He didn't have his best performance against the Phillies, though he managed to strand three runners in scoring position to avoid any further damage. Peterson entered the game having allowed fewer than three earned runs in seven of his last nine outings while maintaining a 56:18 K:BB across 39 frames, so he should experience more success moving forward.

The Mets called Peterson up from Triple-A Syracuse in advance of his start in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader in Philadelphia, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Peterson has been quite effective for the Mets this season, striking out 27.2 percent of opposing batters en route to a 3.30 ERA in 14 starts and four relief appearances. He hasn't been needed in the rotation since Jacob deGrom returned from a shoulder injury, but he remains the top name the Mets will turn to whenever they need a spot start.

Peterson will be recalled to start Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander picked up the win with 5.1 scoreless frames in a spot start Aug. 6 against Atlanta, and he'll rejoin the big club Saturday for the twin bill. Peterson has been an effective rotation option for the Mets in 14 starts this year with a 3.17 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 83:33 K:BB over 71 innings.

Peterson was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse after the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander was excellent in the matinee, holding Atlanta to three hits and three walks over 5.1 scoreless innings to improve to 6-2 on the season. He struck out five. Chances are, Peterson will be back the week of Aug. 15, in time for New York's next twin bill.

Peterson was called up by the Mets on Saturday to start the first game of a doubleheader against Atlanta, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Peterson has made 13 starts and four relief appearances for the Mets this season and has largely been an effective pitcher. Career highs in strikeout rate (27.5 percent) and groundball rate (53.8 percent) have helped offset a poor 11.2 percent walk rate, leading to a 3.54 ERA. The Mets likely won't need him to remain in the rotation after his Saturday spot, but it's possible he retreats to the bullpen rather than the minors.

Mets manager Buck Showalter said Peterson will be called up from Triple-A Syracuse to start one game of Saturday's doubleheader with Atlanta at Citi Field, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
New York is likely to designate Peterson as the 27th man for the twin bill, meaning that he's expected to be sent back to Syracuse immediately after the start. Though Peterson should make for a decent streaming option in deeper leagues after submitting a 3.54 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 86:35 K:BB in 73.2 innings with the big club earlier this season, Jacob deGrom's return to the rotation Tuesday means that the Mets won't have a permanent spot for the 26-year-old lefty now that the team's top five starters are all healthy again.

Peterson was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Peterson wasn't listed as a starter for any games during the Mets' weekend series against Miami, and he'll ultimately head to the minors with Jacob deGrom (shoulder) on track to make his season debut next week. Peterson posted a 4.64 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 21.1 innings over six outings in July and will be a candidate for a call-up if the Mets need an additional starter at some point.

Peterson isn't listed as a starting pitcher for any of the Mets' next four games, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
As a result of off days Monday and Thursday, the Mets are shortening their rotation to four men this week. Taijuan Walker took the mound for Tuesday's win over the Yankees, while Max Scherzer will take the hill in Wednesday's series finale on four days' rest. The Mets will then have Chris Bassitt, Carlos Carrasco and Walker pitch in their three games in Miami this weekend, leaving Peterson to work out of the bullpen like he did in last weekend's series with the Padres. New York will require a fifth starter beginning with next week's series in Washington, but Jacob deGrom (shoulder) looks like he'll be ready to return from the 60-day injured list to make his season debut by then. Unless the Mets lose another starter to an injury or if manager Buck Showalter expands the rotation to six men, Peterson looks like he'll be the odd man out.

Peterson gave up one unearned run on three hits and three walks while striking out eight over five innings in a 3-2 loss to the Cubs on Sunday. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Peterson took advantage of the Cubs sub-par lineup by racking up eight strikeouts over five innings of work. The 26-year-old left-hander found himself in a bases-loaded jam in the fourth after a fielding error by Eduardo Escobar on a tailor-made double play ball, but he got out of the inning by leaning on his slider to induce a couple of swinging strikeouts. Peterson's slider has tons of movement and opponents are only hitting .145 against it in 2022. Despite his success in the rotation this season, however, he could be the odd man out when Jacob deGrom (shoulder) comes off the IL some time after the All-Star break.
