Ortiz went 4-for-4 with a solo homer -- his 30th of the season -- in Wednesday's loss to the Angels. Injuries have slowed him at times in recent seasons, but the blast was Ortiz's 30th of the year, which matches his total from 2014. The big difference in production has come in the form of a reduced batting average, as Ortiz has finished each of the past three campaigns with an average north of .300, but he's hitting just .263 through 120 games in 2014.

Ortiz hit a pair of homers in the Red Sox's win over the Astros on Saturday. The blasts pushed his season total to 28, while he reached the 400 home run milestone as a member of the Red Sox on Saturday night. The age-38 numbers have been a step back from the past three seasons, but Ortiz still has a respectable .252/.341/.504 line with 91 RBI after he drove in six runs in Saturday's game.

Ortiz went 2-for-5 with an RBI single in Thursday's win over Houston. Ortiz did not play Wednesday, with the DH not available at Cincinnati. He's hitting just .202 (20-for-99) with a .261 OBP over the last 30 days, but he's still making the most of things, with seven homers and 29 RBI during that span.

Ortiz is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe. The Red Sox will not be able to use a DH Wednesday playing in a National League park, so Ortiz will open on the bench while Mike Napoli gets the start at first base.

Ortiz is not in the lineup Sunday vs. the Angels, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports. Manager John Farrell will give Ortiz a therapy day after Saturday's 19-inning marathon. Big Papi went 1-for-6 with a run scored and two RBI in the loss.

Ortiz lined out as a pinch-hitter in Thursday's game against the Cardinals. Ortiz was originally in Boston's starting lineup, but was a late scratch for unknown reasons. The field conditions in St. Louis were wet and sloppy, so it's possible Boston did not want Ortiz playing in the field. Considering Ortiz made an appearance in the game though, his availability for Friday's game against the Angels doesn't seem to be in jeopardy.

Ortiz was a late scratch from Thursday's lineup, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports. The reason for Ortiz sitting is unknown but will likely be released by the team in the near future. Mike Napoli will start at first base in his place.

Ortiz is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. Manager John Farrell said earlier in the day that Ortiz would not be in the starting lineup, so his absence should not come as a surprise. The Red Sox have been forced to sit either Ortiz or Mike Napoli when playing in National League parks, so it remains to be seen which player will get the nod at first base against Adam Wainwright in Thursday's series finale.

Ortiz, who started at first base Tuesday night, will not be in the starting lineup Wednesday, the Boston Globe reports. Red Sox manager John Farrell said the plan is to have Napoli start at first Wednesday night. With Boston playing in St. Louis, Farrell will need to work both Napoli and Ortiz into lineup at first base.

Ortiz is handling first base and batting his customary third in the order Tuesday at St. Louis, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports. Ortiz will supplant regular starting first baseman Mike Napoli during the opener of a three-game series in a National League park. Despite getting off to a slow start in the second half -- .232/.262/.607 in 56 at-bats -- he's belted a home run every 9.33 at-bats (for six in all).
